guy at work got one of those mid-90's V8 toyota soarers recently and has been paying out my 5.0L VN constantly. And I will admit, my VN is looking a little rough around the edges...
so we had a little play after work this afternoon at the back of the industrial estate where we work.
VN - 3
Soarer - 0

work so far includes a bottom end rebuild, a set of extractors, a second hand throttle body and a stereo.
it's a work in progress.
my sister has a lexus soaror v8
310kw from a 4.2ltr not bad for stock
like to see you beat that, it beats mine!

did you swap cars? i reckon he was just a shit driver.
swap cars next time, do equal amount of runs and then come back, and maybe do it at a track with some timeslips.
also, wats his? auto or manual?
i see yours is auto
also note, his max power and torque are higher in the rev range than yours, so depending on gear ratios, he might not be making full power til further on that you race to.
all v8 soarers are autoOriginally Posted by hakhawk
yeah, both cars are auto, and i've had mine a lot longer. no way he'll let me drive it though, he wont even let his missus drive it.Originally Posted by hakhawk
we tried it 3 times... it was pretty close each time, the soarer would keep up until i got into second then the vn would pull away...
the other thing is the soarer has traction control and every other accessory known to man, and about 300kg more weight than the wagon... and the wagon doesnt even have the air con connected, it's stripped down pretty bare.
we backed off at the top of second gear, who knows what would happen over a longer run.
V8 Soarers are pretty slow coz they are heavy as for a coupe. Big phat ass on it. Lexus/Toyota pretty just made them as a luxury car with a lil oomph for those that didn't want the far better twin turbo version. Also Soarers have this safety mechanism with their computer systems on auto transmissions where it delays the timing between the mash of the pedal to the floor and the engine roaring into life...only talking about half a second to a second...but thats pretty long in terms of dragging other cars. Interesting battle though...loll...
Crossed over to the dark side...
im sorry to tell u a stock v8 soarer does not have 310kw. They are slow as... Ive seen v6 commys smash them.
you don't get out much hey!Originally Posted by commy92

Some people say less talk more action, i say more torque less traction.
Lexus GS450h was the most powerful Lexus up to the start of 2006 at 218kw.
(The latest 4.5litre V8 is around 290kW)
5.9sec 0-100kmh for the quickest 2006 Lexus and 9.3 for the slowest.
Lexus Soarer? Is it an imported Soarer? If it is and is badged as a Lexus LS400 or LS430 here then it is 6.7 to 100 in the 4.0 litre and as quick as 6.1 in the 4.3 (all auto).
Max power for a Soarer was 208kW from the 2.5 litre turbo six and they were in the high sixes, low sevens 0-100 so a VN V8 should be able to match most of them. The most powerful V8 soarer was the 4.0 litre with 194kW and 0-100 in the mid to high sevens (the N/A 3.0 litre six is good for 183kW). The VN should beat the V8s in a Soarer.

The 1UZ series engines are excellent it's just the excessive weight of the soarer that is its downfall. I'm thinking of an engine conversion for my '64 Valiant and pretty certain it's going to be 1UZ. Reliability and enonomy to power balance being the main reasons. Plus the Valiant weighs 400kg less.
the soarers just a luxo barge or course its not going to ba that quick. Then again the turbo 6 is faster than the 8.
