noooooooooooo not the rockers, now that you are practiced on the waterpump, do some diy porting and bolt some heads on it's gota be first on the list of serious mods since it costs almost nothing, just your time and gaskets and makes more power than any other mod you can do

Ohh my, you know greenfoam - you're going to be the death of me. And the problem is, I know you're right. I should, shouldn't I

Biggest issue here, is that I work 5 days a week, and need the car to get there. I'd love to have a week to spill her guts and take my time doing some good work under the hood.

    I'll... think about it

And to answer your previous question, I ended up buying 225 bridgestone retreads for $45 each fitted. I remembered about the Highway Maxx brand later that night, and kicked myself hard. Once these tyres burn themselves out (or peel away from themselves), I'll hunt down those 225 remoulds. Better than retreads, too - and they come with the greenfoam stamp of approval!

Time to start searching for threads on d.i.y. porting ^^

edit: I guess I could buy a set of shagged heads off the wreckers, and practice on them... then buy a proper set, do them up beautifully, and fit them to my car in a weekend. Time to google articles - thread search is coming up dry

Just some cheap ones from the wreckers that haven't had much of a hard life. Port them, then a quick seat grind and that's good enough for budget style porting

I popped down to the wreckers today, in fact, to suss out some suitable engines.

I know there's a difference between the VN and VP style intake runners... am I correct in remembering that the VN intake manifold was a little longer? I'm fairly certain they wouldn't be cross-compatible, but it's a little food for thought if I was going to take them off...

The VP has a little longer runners, the VP manifold is better . I'm thinking about making some V6 manifolds once I get some more practice going on manifold construction I might go chop one down to have some investigation on the best way to fix one

Ah yes, I remember seeing some pictures of an oddly configured intake manifold, divided clean down the middle to run on two separate banks? There's a good bit of improvement to be had over the stock design, really Are we looking at completely custom runners now?

I'm hoping, with all this fine weather, to get out and run a quick g-tech tonight. Here's hoping for some nice numbers It's been a while since I got out and launched her hard!

Yep, new runners is the way of the future for the V6 but keeping the stock fuel rails as usual there might not be alot to gain really but I'll probably give it a shot after I have the V8 one complete and bolted up

    thanks fitzy

    I've made a decision!!

First, I'm finding a place to rent - somewhere with a garage. Right now, I live on the floor of a friend's house in a sleeping bag... I aim to change that soon. Once I have a property to live in, (hopefully with phoenix from the forum, and his girlfriend), I'll buy myself a second hand bike from the trading post! Hopefully this will set me back no more than $100 - and then the fun can begin:

    I'm tearing the motor down!

Piece-by-piece I plan to disassemble, clean, overhaul and modify everything I can get my grubby little hands on - perhaps as in-depth as hiding all my wiring - I'm not sure yet. But I want this to be one clean little V6 - and if I intend on removing the heads for porting, then I don't see any reason why I shouldn't go overboard and tear her down

All wishes granted, I should be able to begin sometime in October. *rubs hands together* time to start drawing up some plans!

    *cackles*

You should move in with me and the other matt!! All the cheaper

Just ran another g-tech tonight. Backed up my former 7.35 with a 7.38 and 7.32, but I'm getting FAR too much wheelspin launching from the emergency stopping lane of the eastern freeway

I think I need to wait until 4am, start in the MIDDLE lane, and spray a whole bunch of belt grip on my back right tyre ^^ hahahaha

edit: lol stocky, I mean pedal bike although, now that you mention motorbikes... ...

hmm, I should get my bike Ls and a second hand Vespa God, you're a GENIUS!!! I'm going to ebay, RIGHT NOW!

Ahhh yes, you do. I'll have to retrieve that from you at some point!!

I used a combination of many fine layers of VHT Satin Black vinyl paint, (alternated by a light sanding) followed by VHT Gloss Black coats, with more light sanding. Here's a piccy of what it looked like when I did it a year ago, because I still have no new GOOD photos of it (that night-time one looks rubbish)

Hahahaha ^^ Oh... ... *wets his pants*

Even if this were to eventuate, I still love my car, and I love getting down and dirty ^^ (take THAT out of context!)

It'll be a learning experience, and I've been DYING for an opportunity to rip the guts of this engine apart it's also a good excuse to ride a bike and get fit

That's an awesome link, Hakhawk! Cheers!

Some good article links in there, too. Seems like the sort of thing I could waste many days doing ^^

But for now, some more practical projects:

tomorrow, I intend to remove and refit all the door seals (some are playing up, as they do, and patchwork always phails), solve two of my most annoying mystery rattles, and prevent my window from falling off its rails, by drilling a bolt through the end of the guide.

I have my work set out for me! Not the sort of things anybody will ever notice on a cruise, but they matter to -me-

It's doing those little things that really bring you and your car together

Hey, cheers pete Appreciate the comments ^^ hope to see you again at a cruise sometime soon Commodores always have something to keep you on your toes!

Sofar, the door seals have evaded me. Still too lazy - it's the biggest project on my list of stuff that annoys me.

Window - fixed. Re-aligned the pivot of the guides, and that seemed to keep the window in line for now. It's winding straight, but it's a lot tougher to move than it used to be... oh well, at least it's not trying to jump out of my door anymore ^^

And the rattle... you wouldn't believe it. After months of pressing my hands against every panel in the damn car, and running my ear around the entire interior - the rattle was coming from my exhaust heat shield, just before the axle-over bend! Hah! Turns out removing all my sound deadening from the back of the car allowed the rattle to be heard more clearly, which is why it's been giving me the royal craps this last month hahaha SO glad that's over now. Much better.

Meanwhile, here's another pic from the Christmas Hills. This time, a good look at the back of my baby, showing off those phat 225s, and towbar which is now removed in preparation for my next g-tech run ^^

It's a real nice lookign VP, there's not many in that colour around where I live, lucky for me there's lots of maroon ones or I'd be arrested by now:P, My VN looks alot like your VP with the same silver ceptors but its got faded paint now days. I'm going to pain it in a couple months though pulse red as per this Monaro

This colour, I'll post it up one time once its painted

nice to see things going well, i'm thinking about getting some ceptors also for the VN as then i can fit bigger rubber under her bum also, 195's just aren't designed for traction (just for fryin maybe ) 7.35 is afairly respectable time, the early tune will help with all the extra spark advance they have. will be redoing my tune with more advance today. that will hopefully see me in the sub 7sec 0-60mph club and hit 14's what fuel you running in yours, 91 or 95 or you really love your engine and run premium?
