Will, ill try to get spark from coil, if spark occurs, ill take the dizzy cap off and crank to see if the button is spinning. If spark dosnt occur from coil, ill get the old coil out and try that, still no spark then I can guess the ign module, open it up and look for dry solder.

Hall effect senssssssor, how many years do I have to say that for :P. It's just that you've had half a problem for along time and I know the ignition module has been swaped with out the hard to start problem fixing and since the hall effect gives you your reference to fire the car I just allways thought that could be the problem/ Might not too but worth an investigation

Do you have a test for it?

No spark from coil by the looks of it. I sat the exposed dizzy end of the coil lead 5mm from the windscreen wiper washer and kicked it over to see a spark (only have 1 person to do this, and thats me), no spark was produced. Am I doing it right?

put a philips head screwdriver in the end of the number 2 plug lead and rest it close to an exposed metal surface , turn the ignition on and remove the starter motor relay, use a paper clip and bridge number 30 and 87 on the connector to activate the starter from in the engine bay and look for spark coming from the lead... easiest way to do it when your on your own

Pretty much. I would say 2 - 3mm though and use the manafold myself but anything that is earthed should be ok.

there is a test for the hall affect sensor. you wire the dizzy up to a battery, hook the signal wire up to an oscilloscope, use half inch hose and slide it over the bottom of the dizzy shaft after the gear is removed, use a cordless drill with a 13mm drill bit and slide it up into the bottom of the half inch hose, make it spin and check for the square pattern on the oscilloscope screen
if its not reading correct there will be a flat line momentarily in the square pattern on the screen
i dunno if its the correct way but its the easiest way i found when i was checking mine cos i had an intermittent misfire with my old dizzy
sounds dodgy but it works

Thanks for the tips, ill kep trying. Ive decided to take the manifold off to change the gaskets, i suppose this would be a good time to take the dizzy out and then replace the hall effect sensor. I might just replace the hall effect sensor for $110 while ive got the dizzy out, thats if the dizzy looks all good itself.

DOH..... Disregard that about the coil - it won't work and proves nothing.. Must have been in lala-land or something.

Make sure you put it back **exactly** how it came out. Ie the rotor is in **exatly** the original position. Take a pic as a reference.

So your saying that the coil will not produce a spark | | |
