Default 1991 VP Calais - HSV Enhanced

I'm posting up a new thread as the old one was lost.

Model - 1991 VP HSV Enhanced Calais
    Colour - Imperial Blue
    Odometer - 138,000km
    Transmission - Auto
Exhaust - Twin cat 2.5" system into 3", no resonator
    HSV Enhancements:
    • 5L 180kW engine pack
    • HSV 16 x 8 Family wheels
    • HSV Suspension kit
    • HSV Body kit
    • Momo steering wheel
Also has electric sunroof and stereo (JVC Exad hu, Focal splits, Pioneer sub and amp, Alpine V12 amp).

Here are some pics. The first pic was when I first bought it in 2003, it had 103,000km on it.

The rest of the pics are from my mobile and the car is filthy, hasn't been washed in 6 months and has spent the last 4 years living outside

Will post up new pics with digital camera and when the car has been fully detailed soon.

Just bought a new house so its going to go into the garage where I can spend some time bringing it back to mint condition like it was when I first bought it.

what the exhaust cost ya to get done? I'm thinking of going with the same system 2.5" twin cat into single 3" with no resi.

    $530 including fitting and tip.

Used the existing cat and used a second hand one they had in stock.

It originally was installed with a resonator where the intermediates usually go, but I cut it out cos it droned too much. Sounds good now.

Have a listen to Airstrikes VN (he has a soundclip somewhere), as that sounds pretty bloody good. I might think about changing to that setup (twin cat, full twin 2.5" system with a hotdog in each branch with a balance pipe....I think).

Ah, this thread has been revived. Forgotten about it

Odometer is up to 145,000km now.

Its build number 56, its a late Dec 91 model. Those HSV numberplates are now in storage at the RTA in case I decide to sell them.

I have a authentication letter from HSV with the enhancements that are listed in my first post.

    Cheers.

Cheers, electric sunroof is good. A bit noisy but nothing a oil can't fix.

Here is one, video style shamelessly copied off Mack

I'll try and get a better one in the next few days.

I had plans for this car, they have been put on hold now as I have a mortgage.

I was planning on lowering, fitting some charcoal coloured 18's and converting it to manual.

I know exactly what you mean.

I need my roof lining redone and its going to be a pain in the ass to get it right with the sunroof.

I am heading overseas for work for 10 days as of tomorrow so I'll take some pics when i get back.

It actually sounds quite flat in the car, nothing at all what it sounds like from outside the car.

Its basically a twin 2.5", twin cat, into 3" at the rear muffler.

No intermediates or no resonator. It used to have a resonator but it was a bit too loud, deep and droney in the cabin. Used to get a headache after driving it for a while. Still using the HM headers that were fitted to the 180kW engine pack.

As my car is pretty much stock, the exhaust guy told me it was a waste of money forking out an extra $700+ for Pacies, just to keep the HM ones that HSV fitted. He said something along the lines of "You won't notice an additional $700 worth of sound or power gains, just do it if you do some serious engine work".

They seem good enough, then again I am no expert and took the exhaust place at their word.

    It idles around 500-600rpm.

I'm trying to decide whether its been cammed. Its got a fairly lumpy idle (enough to shake the seats when sitting at the lights), a bit doughy down low but goes ballistic above 3000rpm. Also chews the juice more than a standard 5 litre as well.
