INTERIOR: Original Berlina spec interior with leather trim, aircon, cruise control, power steering, central locking and power windows. Previous owner did fit a different drivers seat.
EXTERIOR: Original paint and body kit. Paint still polishes up nice for 17 year old car but obviously has the usual close inspection blemishes. Original SV mags saved in the shed to be shod with MT street radials for (Woop arse Wednesday) sessions.
STEREO: Alpine 45w x 4 deck with 4" fronts. Rears are 6"x9" Boschmann and 2x 12inch SONY subs in a custom ported enclosure. Response 4x130watt power amp to drive the rear end. Seen 123db on the sound meter with a great sound and tight and deep bass.
OTHER MODS: Vented Group A bonnet scoop to try and feed cool air straight through the manifold tunnel (between the runners and the plenum). Only works if the throttle body engine cover is removed thou.

Absolutely. The DP will fit under the scoop with a 14x3" filter but theres nothing stopping a bloke whacking in a spacer under the TB and fitting a higher filter.

It is a wagon mate with plenty of space to fill. To be honest thou the speakers I wanted from this brand were 6" but not available so I took their big brother speakers. I needed something to handle genuine high power to keep the sound stage even above the subwoofer volume. What would you say if I told you I listen to some country music on it

i dont think you understand what 6x9's are made for....regardless of genre of music.

6x9inch speakers are made to be run without subs, they provide a low level freq to give more bass when not running any mono subs.

6inch 3ways or splits are designed to give more trebel and high freq rather than bass.

big or small it dosnt matter, your getting less quality running 6x9's with subs.

Mate I been designing and building speakers, crossovers and subs for houses and cars for 20 years. The bass component of the 6x9's is going to waste in this install with the crossover point used but the descision to use these speakers was based on tonal preference and the value for money at the time. The whole install was suprisingly cheap and I designed it that way to show some of the young blokes in my family that well chosen good value components in a well designed system can sound as good as alot of expensive gear. I originally bought the car purely as a work car to save our good cars getting killed by fall out at the refinery I work at but as we do the money started flowing towards it.

if you have been building them for over 20years then you have no idea...
i run my own business and i think anyone in the industry would say the same thing.

can buy a pair of 6inch splits for $150 to run in a decent class. that would **** over teh 6x9's 10times over.

all in all, not gona start a **** fight mate, nice car though.

For someone who has never heard the install you seem very opinionated on it. I appreciate your in the industry, but I bet there are things you do on your car based on personal preference rather than whether its the best possible choice according to the "experts". For instance the guys who had it before me had a rice canon on it. Guess how long that lasted.
    Peace bro.

its not personal prefernce, go post your answer on Mobile Electronics Australia | Forums | Product Reviews | Custom Installations | Advice | Tips | Community

and they will same the thing dude.

i dont need to listen to it, because ive done enough installs to know that 6x9's are jsu tnot suited to a sub application.

123db isnt much for 2x12inch subs with a ported enclosure.how many cubes are those boxes your running, have you tuned the box to the sub?

Each cone was individually tested to get its T&S parameters and the enclosure is designed to suit them and is tuned to about 28hz if my memory serves me. Its a simple bass reflex enclosure with a large slot port to reduce port air speed and the associated harmonics and chuffing.
    Anything else?

nah thats fair enough, i just realised they are sony explode brand which would be the reason for the low db reading.

but you still havnt ansewered how many cubes the box is?

and what sort of HSV is it?

Total volume is just over 200 litres to allow me a large port without it having to be overly long.
    2 x explod subs $70 each
    2 x (6x9's) $99 pair (admitedly on a clearance special)
Jaycar Responce amp $249 on sale
    2 x alpine 3" fronts > in it hen I got it.
Alpine deck > in it when I got it.
    Associated cabling and connects $100
MDF screws, glue and carpet $100
As I said a budget install with a good alround sound. Yes I could have got more volume out of the subs with a bandpass enclosure but I went for tonal quality as well rather than shear output.

yep, factory speakers have my vote also, nothing better then a bit of crackling when you turn the volume up (when they work that is, gotta turn left i think and hit a bump) nice ride. cooling the intake is a good idea... i can see greenfoams mind ticking over

Cant take full credit for the intake cooling idea as the cut out was there when I got it. I looked at the alignment of it and figured thats what it was for and trial a couple of flow ducts but havent put them on since running the Starr manifold. When I change to a DP and 1000cfm TB I guess I will make it part of the cold air intake system instead.

200 liters a box or the both of them? is there a divider? if there is 100l a box is still heaps even if it is ported. i second the sony brand but bang for buck and the average amature sound system $35 each cant go wrong . also have to agree with the 6-9 VS 6s, all and all not a bad setup should have set the subs faceing to the back you would be able to tell that it would sound a **** load better a mate had a 4x4 and 800watt amp and pioneer sub ported box faced up sounded ok nothing special but i turned the box to the back and it sounded heaps better. good luck witht the car looks good.

Allready had the idea for a duct down the guts of the banana for a year or so, just never done it :P but good to see someone has . I was going to go the other way around with a reverse scoop and a duct from the front of the car but if I was doing all that I may as well finish my manifold right :P

I like the manifold idea also GF. I've got a bunch of bananas sitting on my workbench right now with a wedge cut out through the centre. Was going to fab up some crossover trumpets like the 8x throttle body setups but enclose them in a new plenum with a 65mm TB coming in from opposite sides of the plenum and aimed at each bank of trumpet. Kind of like you see on the Porsche 928 V8's from the late 80's. Lower plenum would be redundant and the original intake elbow could be removed to allow a large air flow under the new plenum. Runner lengths would have been about 10-11inches. The whole top of the plenum including the new trumpet extentions and the TB's were going to be removable from the lower section for better access to the fuel rails and the rocker covers. I'll dig up my drawings and post them (got to find them).
    Cheers

Heres a photo of the mock up. Obviously the new trumpets would match the existing runner diameter and the front of the new plenum would be sealed. These photos give an idea though. Bonnet clearance in the centre and throttle linkage to the slave TB are the only other issues to sort
