Nice VQ Daniel, looks in damn good nick mate. How soon to you strip the guts out if it to save weight? lol
I know. I HATE the system. >_>
Shove a sticker on there if you like. REPRESENT!
OkayYou fanboy. lol
hahaha, I'll keep her stock for about a month I think, to grow accustomed to every last inch of the car. Then I can start changing things and really appreciating the difference.![]()

Ahhhh alright, I had to dig in and fix up some little bits and pieces around the old VQ last night. With the help of VSIIISU, we were able to get in there and fix up the door seals, the rear spoiler, and the sound system.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Door seals on this Stato were the WORST I've EVER seen on a car in my lifeAnd I've seen some pretty rotten stuff. I would go so far as to say that 80% of the rubber was hanging clean off the plastic grip on EVERY door, and the rest of it was held on with liquid nails, sikaflex, and some sort of strange creamy crazy glue. Amazing work, and my congratulations go out to the last owner of this car, who clearly put a lot of time and effort into keeping it in original condition.
Anyway, here are a couple of happy snaps of the seals before we attacked them. They truly were abysmal :/
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
And then I got keen, and decided the rear wing HAD TO GO! Thanks to everyone who put forward a supporting word, saying "it's different, I guess it's not too bad"... but let's face it, that thing was MAJORLY uncool. (btw, I'm selling a white VP SS spoiler if anybody wants one.)
Here's some pics of the work we did. The wing wasn't only bolted on... it was held down with the aid of about two litres of sikaflex and other black solvents. It took us the best part of two hours to scratch and scrape this bastard off with the help of metho and acetone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This left me with five lovely holes in the boot... and lacking the correct size of rubber grommet at the time, I decided to patch them up with some stainless bolts and soft copper washers I had handy on me at the time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahhhh... much better.

lolol, box of 50 noodles.. instant type I suppose? been there had them yuck!!.
Anyhow it was funCan't wait to see you getting rid of the excess weights off the VQ and maybe chucking on cat back lol
Mods:
- Clear headlights (Altezza)
- CAI, 8mm spiral coil spark plug leads
man you could of at least waited until the holes were filled properly! the spoiler would of looked better than the bolts covering the holes, but it seems you were pretty keen to get it off so............
Ooooh no. I don't think you understand, money spent on filling in the holes and getting the boot resprayed is money spent badly
I'll take the bolts out next week and put some gasket glue in there, but so long as water doesn't get in, it's fix'd.
Just wait 'till I finish with this car. If you don't like that, you'll cry![]()

leak some info? bling or mods?
and you dont mind me stealing one of your pics for my avatar? Next best thing to taking a pic.
Hahaha, oh wow. Bling? No, not for this statesman. No no... not at all. If it costs money, and isn't somehow directly related to making the car faster/lighter/quicker around a corner, it won't happen.
Go for itIt's a brilliant picture, isn't it? ^_^

VE Commodore SS-V [SKD55] ► Phantom Black ► Redhot Leather Trim ► 6 Speed Manual ► 282 RWHP Stock ►
im glad you got a v8 and a nice one at that...
but your sailing the wrong ship if your keen to make a VQ... a barge, a fast car... yeah itll go but youll be trashing a luxury car to do it... would have thought you would have waited out for a 5ltr exec or somehting but your call i guess..
have fun.
aZk.
You need vt SSSl springs, sit SSL height in a VQ but are stiffer, You need stiffer shocked in the rear too.. Get some cradle snappage back there!!
S2 shift kit, boost valve, corvette servo, boost reaction shell, kevlar bands! get it shifting with as least irs dump as possible like my old one! just get ready to replace cradles...
Cheers

I think a Aero rear bar, Senator skirts and GTS front bar will set it off well Mortimuz.
you mean group a front bar

The group a bars are better performance wise than you think, allows ALOT more air to get to the engine bay are for cooling. ie-through grille.
You dont get a 5 litre to do burnouts anyway, the extra stress of the v8 put more tension on the drive train, v8's will break more parts than a v6... but he'll learn that shortly..
Sweet, I'm looking forward to itRoughly how many people have you got coming around, just so I can let people know?
Still keen for stains on Saturday night, and then striparoo on Sunday at 11am?
Cheers for the comments mate
I wouldn't call it a particularly luxury car. If I bought a SII VQ Caprice, then THAT would be a luxury car, and I wouldn't go on a mission with it. But this baby is a bottom-of-the-line VQ Statesman. It doesn't have rear roof mirrors, doesn't have glove box cooling, it doesn't even have the driver's side glove compartment. It's a much tougher starting point than a VP Exec no doubt, but working on the budget and time constraint I had, I couldn't pick up a VP Exec V8 in GOOD condition for the right price. $3000 for a straight stato is still unbeatable
I think the VQ is only 100mm longer than the standard commodore, and I'm hoping there's extra sound deadening in there to account for some of the weightSmall, heavy things like the power arial are coming out ofc.
And for the record, I won't be thrashing itAs a daily, and believe me, I'm going to post up the fuel consumption pics, I drive it slower than your average mum. I'm getting around 10 L/100 average on a daily basis. The only time this car will see anything near the redline, will be on G-Tech runs. No burnouts or circles or "drifting" for this baby. I didn't do that stuff in the VP, and have no plans to do it in the VQ.
Hahaha, maybe the way you used to downshift into 2nd at 80kphThat gearbox of yours was incredible. Felt awesome too. But nah, this car isn't going to be a hardcore street-racer. Just a straight line g-tech hero, and otherwise daily driver on a budget
Ooohhh now there's an idea. Anyone willing to swap a packet of cable ties for a white VP SS Spoiler, you have a deal!(srsly.)
I would debate the strength of a V8 motor, but there's still no way this is a burnout car. Ever. If I wanted a burnout hero, I would have bought a manual VN V6 for $2000hahahaha
And just for the record (), this isn't a race car, or a burnout car, or a drift king, or a dedicated drag car. It's just a G-Tech project
And I'm looking forward to getting STUCK RIGHT IN
I hope to get my G-Tech back off my mate this saturday, so I can do a full-weight run, and post a base stock time to improve on
Any bets on what she'll run with full trim, spare, towbar, and half a tank of gas?
I'm saying low-mid 8sec
Should have over 100kg removed from her within the next couple of months. I'll be buying myself a large plastic "sin bin" for this project. Something with a recordable base weight. Then EVERYTHING I remove will be placed into the bin. Towbar, jack, sound deadening, etc, will all be placed in the bin, and added up over time. Things like the manual/power arial swap will be both weighed, and the difference added.
I'm looking forward to this!![]()
