Reaper, do you know how much further down your ASR sump sat than the standard number? I'm just a bit concerned about ground clearance with the larger sump.

Also, if anybody has any further input regarding my mild build, I'd love to take it on board I'm not looking for a dyno queen, I'm only looking for a bit more midrange torque, without losses down low. Looking at 9.3-9.5 comp with the cam I'm looking at, but I'm letting greenfoam work out some details on the cam through Wade. I'm no expert on durations and lsa

Geeez danny boy you dont muck around do ya! Spewing its gonna take a while, but should be fun process (plus many headaches lol).
Cant wait to see it back on the road. You should def try and get the most of the standard stroke man! But you dont want a massive cam and comp so i dunno man, should still be a rocket once its done, and fresh as too

looks good, did you hire the crane? like i said in another thread, i have a crane sitting idle, if you need to borrow it to stick the motor back in just let me know... (its at my house in melb, not the bush)

what cam are you using? and plans for the bottom end? or strictly cam + CR?

i reckon bite the bullet and get some magic done on the heads while their off...

look on the upside, everything's super easy to get to when the motors out, you can replace any seal easily now

Haha yeah, I like to get stuck right into it. I can't wait to see it back on the road either, it'll never be the same

You're right, I'm not after anything massive. A small bump in the midrange, and some nice torque all around would be nice. Just a little kicker to make her get up the hills with a bit more sprite Frankly it's fast enough for me already, I primarily need it to handle better.

Nah, borrowed the crane from Hozy. Just walked in the door with my own engine stand though Bargain from work. Thanks for the offer on the crane though, I really appreciate it

I'm planning on using a mild cam. Something with rooooughly 112lsa (maybe more?) and close to .495 lift. Not sure on the durations, that's out of my field

It's tempting to get the heads done, but for the budget I'm working in, it's not really worth it on 304 heads. This is only a mild car, and it's not going to be revving past 5500rpm ever ever. Probably not even to 5000 if history is anything to go by.

Bottom end will remain standard, just with some high-comp pistons. Bore/rings/bearings implied. With any luck I can bring it all together around the budget of $2200 with some help from Rory and maybe Luke

Now I just need four long bolts in the bellhousing bolt pattern

Does anybody know if you can send bolts further into the block than the standard bellhousing bolts go? Standard bolts only sink about 14mm into the back of the block - I'd ideally like to throw something at least 1" into the block. Is there provision to send bolts further in?

Morton in times like this you just remember, everyone else gets 304s on stands without them falling off so it must work

Then stick it back in and get it to a dyno!
Good! I regret every time I start my car not having put a 304 in while I had the chance

Pulled the motor apart today. Good to see that the sump is mostly sludge-free The pickup was good for 300,000km too!

What's unnerving, is that there doesn't appear to be any carbon holding the broken oil pump shaft in lol

I guess the timing gear comes off tomorrow, and I'll knock out the roll pin on the helical pump drive gear, and smash the pump sleeve back into the block

    More pics tomorrow, too.

I'm just sitting back eating an apple I cooked in the fireplace, viewing mortons sump and pickup. You might think you have nothing to eat but so long as there's fire and an apple it's not so bad
