What's unnerving, is that there doesn't appear to be any carbon holding the broken oil pump shaft in lol

I guess the timing gear comes off tomorrow, and I'll knock out the roll pin on the helical pump drive gear, and smash the pump sleeve back into the block

    More pics tomorrow, too.
hey, just curious as to why yours has a red motor oil pickup on it?
all the injected motors had the smll gay pickup that gets clagged up!! whys yours so special?

I was going to ask you about that, I though the pickup looked big but thought maybe that's just how they are when zoomed up realy close:P. Mortons motor seems to have been rebuilt at some stage

Jeez, I think you're right... this is a pic I found of a standard 304 pickup.

More chit-chat for me later, back to the engine for now!

I know, it's WIERD isn't it!! I've done some asking around, and nobody's heard of a pickup that big in a VQ before Either way, I'm not complaining!!

Yeah, it appears to have been played with quite a bit at some point, given that the cam lines up backwards and the pickup is different

Cheers for the comment on the paint job. It took freakin' ages! I've made sure not to polish everything up though, so it still looks like a well-worn engine - just a clean one. I don't want everything to be mint, and it's not.

Cheers man, that was 100% assembled and ready to drop in. Me and Hozy dropped the engine like that into the car about 20min after the photo was taken. No mucking about

Haha most of it's hidden under the grubby manifold. I've been careful to ensure the engine doesn't look too clean.

I know, it's beautiful isn't it shame you can't see most of the niceness in the engine bay. But it makes me happy to know it's all perfect

No cam for now, but it's not too bad hey I'm just going to leave it a stocker 'till something breaks, and when it NEEDS to be pulled apart, then I will.

Well the motor is BACK IN THE CAR!

Almost ready to run. Just letting the exhaust gasket cure, then double-checking everything and turning it on to run-in for a while as I put the interior back together. Then slap some wheels on, and it should be running by midnight!

I didn't do any rebuilding. It's not worth it for now I'll wait for something big to break, then I'll rebuild it.

For now I just reconditioned all the peripherals, checked the bearings, and slapped it back together
