Got everything wired up and the gearbox in. Almost ready to turn over, just need some coolant. NA for the moment.
Looks good but I don't really know what it's gonna go like.
Roadworthy and reg to follow, then it's intercooler time.

Started it up earlier tonight, got it on the first try.
Idles smooth, revs well, haven't been out for a test drive yet.

Bearing in mind this motor was fairly cheap:-
Compression test.
6: 137 5: 150
4: 143 3: 150
2: 160 1: 150
Original engine before blower:
0-100 : 7.1sec
1/4 mile : 15.2
Wrecker Special without blower:
0-100 : 7.2sec
1/4 mile : 15.6
It's a little rough and flat high in the rev range, but seems to get better the more it is driven. I think the valve gear might be a little on the "aged" side but seems to be improving as oil gets pumped around.
I am hoping that the addition of the SV3800 tune without knock sensor will bring the time down a little more. And I plan to flush the oil shortly and put some decent synthetic stuff in.
So all in all I am happy with the wrecker special.

Spent most of the day on my rebuild project today, it seems that we have some momentum and things have begun to get serious.
Pulled the heads down and cleaned them up. Valves seats will be ground, valves lapped and heads machined in the coming week. Will be putting new stem seals and springs in along with some yella terra roller rockers.
Next the intake manifold got similar treatment. Looking pretty sexy! Got some nice brass heater hose fittings to replace the crappy plastic ones that came OEM from Holden.
Pulled all the pistons from the short motor. All the rings were in tact and I am encouraged by what the bores look like. Big end journals looking good too.
I will be replacing the cam during the rebuild, want a few more RPM, Reaper has suggested some antipumpup lifters too.
Teardown will continue over the next few days, once we are down to the bear block, i'll be ordering up, a line bore, hone, sqaure and deck along with a linish on the crank, balancing, and new bearings.
Not sure what I'll go with in regard to pistons, 8.5:1 is stock, and probably suitable for the boost I plan to run. I have considered a stroker kit, but find it too expensive for the power upgrade provided. If anyone has suggestions here don't be afraid to speak up.

I have been able to make more progress on the teardown. A quick thanks to Reaper for providing the helping hand pictured below. Without "The Gun" I wouldn't have gotten anywhere, those bolts on the drive pully, cam, and harmonic balancer were all hyper tight! I really am starting to subscribe to his faith in larger hammers n such. One day I may even build a V8.
Now it's time the block went on a little trip to the machine shop.

Unfortunately it has gone nowhere, this car/project has been shelved indefinately due to purchase of a Bimmer.
