very nice man, much better then the old vn .

probally better off dumping all spare cash into replacing all the standard things right off the bat, belts, sparks, all fluids, trans service etc, try to limit any issues.

but pick up a CAI

i wouldnt worry bout rims to much but try to pick up some stock calais rims or something so it doesnt look dodgy as all **** like it does right now.

yeah it was from interstate but as far as what the dude who sold it told me that was a long time ago!

i'll get some photos of my seats and interior, but i've got some good stuff for them as well. soften them up. drivers seat is ripped though, probably going to use a seatcover for it.

ooo a RED calais :O i want 1 that looks **** hot man altho i think id have it all 1 tone but its still red so who cares lol after readin this thread so far it seems similar 2 the things i went through wen i bought mine dw bout the things u have 2 fix man trust me in the end like some1 else already said after they have been replace its an awsome car 2 drive and will last u years 2 come and no doubt i would have picked this car over the inter simply coz of its colour lol. haha thanks man! i'll get some more pics tomorrow when it comes back from the rwc. warning though, the interior isn't fantastic. carpet is shagged but i've got mats. will probably look better in photos than it does in real life

you have a good eye, and thanks for that as well. 1 less thing i'll get nabbed for (unless they check anyway!). no idea how i'd go about fixing the tear in the seat. sew it up? it'd look worse than the tear itself!

off the funny stuff for now, wouldn't let gas near this unless i got lpg injection and ripped out the whole petrol system, which wouldn't warrant the cost anyway and i can afford petrol now so it's all good! geoff i go to work with a guy who looks exactly like you haha. on an upcoming nice friday when the weather is just a bit nicer i'll come up to FG, and i'll check out what cruises are happening soon as well and see what i can make it to

It'd be a good idea to get a HSV Verification Sheet if you ever want to sell it in the future. Lots of mock ups out there. It's just weird in the Car Sales pics that there isn't any HSV interior badging like on the dash. Guess the guy must have just taken it off

Give HSV a call and get them to check the VIN and engine numbers. If it is a HSV, they'll send you out a Verification Sheet for a fee (The HSV interior badges probably got nicked if the car got sold at a auction in the past).
Also, just get a dodgy RWC done if you got a mechanic mate, saves you a lot of money in the long run, as proper RWC are an absolute c**t to get for VN and VP's, they pick on a lot of things that dont necessary need to be changed (I had to change an assortment of rubbers, simply because they were old (still good mine you) and I got hassled because my seats wobbled a bit). If you do take it for a proper RWC, make sure the engine and underbody is sparkling (ie. no leaks or dirt), as first impressions count heaps for older cars.
Once you get it all fixed up, you should take it for a quarter mile. Im interested to know the time difference between the 180kw hsv v8 and the stock 165kw one. My brothers VQ V8 165kw got a 14.6, i reckon yours should beat that easily especially since the Calais carries less weight than the VQ.

i'll put the vin number in later when i get the car back, got a call from the mechanic though telling me that i got a really good car because it's definitely a hsv (got the build number on the plates and he reckons it's got the cam).

the calais sure is light weighing in at only 1370kg!

HSV enhanced could be optioned with the 180kW engine pack in the VPs, that was it. Consisted of the ecu, SV airbox and HM headers. Auto was also recalibrated.

Since manual was an option, this is correct as the T5 wasn't offered on the 200kW motors, like in the GTS or 5000i models. I think there were one offs, but in the whole, the t5 wasn't generally made available for anything more than 180kW.

Remember, with enhanced cars, the options available depended on how much cash you had to throw around. Even the badges and sticker kits were options.

Ring HSV and get them to send out a verification letter. Will cost you nothing. The letter will spell out every hsv mod done to the car.

When I spoke to HSV, they informed me that they don't keep track of build numbers for the enhanced models, but 'approximately' 200 VP's were enhanced.

I reckon the majority of those were SS's, so being a Calais, and in red, I think your car is in a very small minority.

My SS has the HSV enhanced stuff including the badges 185 engine, intake etc and the dude who sold it said it was a factory option so yeah I guess the SS/Calais with HSV enhanced is at the highest scale of SS/Calais

edit : cos I cant quote, Tikoban the 1/4 is probably very similair to clubsport which had 180kw motor and 1300kg weight and clicked in at 14.3 i believe in wheels or so
