yep. the hole in them is where the bolt that holds the rockers down goes though

How you progressing Jason? Any news or pics of manifold mods?
Got those springs and retainers in, I can't have a picture of the manifold untill the lid goes on it :P but that's about as far as I've got. Next job on my list is the cam.... Then manifold... Then heads. It has to be in that order. I'll have to start to hurry up a bit because November is not far away
hi foam, will those spring retainers fit stock springs or do they only suit a specific spring??
EDIT - v v v Thanks for that jason

Yes only a specific size spring, but it just happens to be stock and LT1 sized springs that they fit, those are 10 degree retainers tho, there's another part number for the normal 7 degree locks in that spring size. The LT1 springs I got are identical to the stock spring, same exact spring as far as I can tell
After reading your whole thread again, THIS is the bit that grabbed my eye
Where on EARTH do you intend to find another twenty kilos? I'd like to see that! hahaha
It's so good to finally see this coming together after years of planning and accumulation of parts. You've talked about it for so long - I still can't believe the car is off the road getting a camEvery night I think about your car doing g-tech runs up and down Mortons Road north of Heywood, but it's not! It's sitting in the garage having open heart surgery
Have you been taking detailed pics of the whole process? You should write a book, 'cause I bet there's no better list of parts to buy for a 304 cam swap without running an expensive manifold
Also, speaking of manifolds, are you still whipping up your greenfoam special? What ever happened to those plans![]()

Well Morton of Mossvale I made this last night cause I was bored and need to find TDC. I couldn't be bothered plugging the mig in so it's nice and rustic, I like it :P (hopefully it's long enough or I'll need to make a new shaft)

my 10 inch runner mani really kicks from 4 grand, i highly recommend this runner length for a street engine that doesn't rev too hard![]()
Almost got roller rockers on this nowbeen collecting used parts/old stock and whatever I can scrounge to get a full set of crane gold rockers on it. I still need three trunions (the shaft the rocker pivots on) so if anyone knows where a incomplete set are or some broken ones let me know: )
I'm racing November 6th. Dunno what stage I'll be up to but a PB should be on the cards straight up either way. So that's excitable
, I should have a balancer puller during this week sometime so that's something
ill be there to watch the vp mate. hope u do well 4 the 5L guys.
No racing for the big super 6?
Jason, no need for a balancer puller on a 5 litre....
Just undo the big bolt and the balancer slides off.![]()

You must be doing it wrong Mike.....
I just put a lever behind the balancer and off it comes.
yeah i used a lever, but it took a while. came off very slowly. guessing it had never been removed in 14 years

Stocky told me his was really tight so I figured I'll buy one before I do it, I don't want to be getting stuck half way, I don't own many tools. Tim how is is the most simple way to undo the crank bolt (with just one person in a auto car without a impact driver)
socket and breaker bar under the chassis rail then crank the engine ver for a sec work everytime for me some would say it dodgey though

Yeh, with limited tools, do it the way Pub suggested. Although, when i did the balancer seal on the ute recently i did manage to jam up the flexplate with a tyre lever then crack the bolt with a breaker bar. Either way will work fine, i just didn't want to damage my paint by smacking a bar up against it when cranking the engine over.
Yes, you will want a 6 point 15/16 or 24mm socket.
Jamming the flex plate with a long screwdriver worked for my V6![]()

I've always taken the H/B pulley bolt off with a breaker bar and under the chassis lol, just so easy and affective, i would do the same with a V8

Good to see you're progressing Jason. Would love to see it go 12's mate.
Vrwagz1, that manifold design is the go! Bit like an LS1, bit like a certain VB's too...... but with an OTR, maybe a shaved radiator like has been mentioned in another read, to get it under the bonnet.
Definatly going to go 12's sooner or later :0, I got a secondhand set of flat tops on std bore the other day (for future reference). The manifold is the key in all this, I might only gain .1 on the cam but I should gain the best part of a second on the manifold
