ay all, i was told the other day that using premium regularly in my vr can blow head gaskets and or cause head problems? iv heard nothing of it and my cars seems fine. wat do you run and have you had or known of any problems?
wtf? ive never heard of anything like that b4. ive only heard that premium is good for the car. i only use premium.
At worst it's a waste of money if your car doesn't need the higher octane rating, it won't blow your gaskets or damage anything.

Has anyone done dyno runs with premium vs regular? I can't be stuffed paying the extra for premium unless i see some good figures.
Actually witnessed some tests between Standard Unleaded and BP Ultimate when i was at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide in two identical Ford V8's and the figures did give the more expensive premium fuel quite an edge along with a cleaner burn rate and better economy. I am still not totally convinced unless i was running a V8, Turbo or Supercharged engine.
Matt.
I notice a difference on the premium and it's not my imagination lol. Normally get 95 sometimes 98.
does anyone use ethanol on here or does everyone stay away from it?
most people stay away from it.but there is a lot of good info about it the yanks love E85 they call it street legal methanol over there.but if you convert to run on it you cant run pump gas without converting back or running a twin tune memcal would be a way round it
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
I so recon its a mental thing, i have run 91, 95, 98 and that 100(cant remember what servo had this 100 RON stuff labled a while ago but havnt seen it for a while) RON stuff and i can seriously say that in my VS V6 i cant tell squat all difference, I tend to run 91 and every couple of tanks run a 98 or something as "apparently" that can help keep the engine clean. Never seen any figures or proof of this though. And no 98ron fuel wont hurt your Vr/s....
could u tune your ecu to give you better performance with premium fuel? im talking about V6's primarily as well as from what i have experienced, it doesnt make a difference what fuel its always the same performance.
For about 3 months I filled up on Vortex 95, and compared the economy etc to the previous 3 months running on regular. Economy was identical, and when going up hills and normal driving I felt no power change.
However, I then put a doctor Bob tune in and there is a noticeable difference in power and economy between premium and regular, which is to be expected I guess.
Premium fuel only makes a difference if your car is tuned for it.
A lot of people think a higher octane rating means the fuel contains more energy and gives more power, but this is not the case. What a higher octane fuel does, is provide more resistance to pre-ignition, and that lets you run a higher compression ratio, and/or more spark advance without pinging, which will give you more power.
Unless your tune is designed to take advantage of the higher octane, it won't do anything.
