    Exclamation Roof cloth is hanging...

The roofing inside my car is starting to go up shit creek... It's starting to droop all over and coming out of the corners, exposing extremely annoying yellow foamie bits in the air as I'm driving.

How can I fix the problem? What is the price difference between doing it myself and getting it done by someone?

    Thanks boys!

It cost me about $200 to get an auto trimmer to replace the roof lining.
I think there are a few threads on here about the DIY approach.

Whereabouts did you get it done? And do they fix it with the same cloth or a completely new one? Is it the same material?

I got mine done at a local auto trimmer/upholsterers. Live just south of Wollongong.
They renew the cloth and foam backing. Looks original.

Yeah that's mad man, I am going to the gong this arvo, got heaps of cousins and mates that live down there. So they quoted you around the $200 mark? Good that they keep it all stock as well, how long ago did you get it done and how long does it last (estimate)?

I'll keep my eyes and ears open then. Does anyone know of a place in Sydney that do the same kinda thing?

I got mine done a few months ago. Dropped the car off first thing in the morning and picked it up at 1pm the same day.
How long does it last?, I assume it depends on the quality of the glue and backing foam used.

Alright no worries man, thanks. Sounds good and a pretty quick job.

Anyone know of a place up in Sydney where I can get this done?

Granted this was a long time ago, but I went and bought one from a wreckers for about $75 and changed it myself. Took a bit of messing around but eventually fit it in. Don't know why people bother trying to reglue old ones.

Because generally the sagging headlining is caused by break down of the foam backing which happens over time. You have no idea when the second hand roof lining will start sagging - could be a week - could be years.

If you buy new headlining (~$40), put a bit of work into preparing the surface, and glue it yourself with a quality high-temperature adhesive (~$15), it works out cheaper than the second hand option. Providing you do a reasonable job, it is also guaranteed to last longer.

Ah well the replacement roof lining was still going strong when I sold the car three years later so can't complain with that Just have to choose one that is in excellent condition with no evidence of the glue starting to lose its grip.

I'd rather spend the extra $20 rather than put all that work in anyday, but hey I'm just lazy

    Default glue

if you dont want to spend the cash for a trimmer,go to motor traders, sprints, repco and get some spray glue/aerosol trim adhesive and do it yourself.
apply where needed or remove it compleatly and spray the whole lot on the floor.
it will last for some time but in my experience its bettter to get it replaced.
it always depends if the car is worth it?but thats up to you
    cheers

itl take years wagz, why pay hundreds of dollars when you can pay $20 and IF IT DID HAPPEN, it would be like 3yrs later anyways.

Well my car is certainly worth it, but how would a PROPER home job compare to that of a professional job? Would the outcome be A LOT better or very similar?
