Not necessarily - the battery terminals if making bad contact will cause the computer to shut down - your acc lights etc are not controlled by the computer. If its not loose battery terminals I'd suggest you do a fault codes check as it may indicate the fault. see link attached

You can pull the battery out of the car once running and it wont do shit.
The car runs off the alternator not the battery.
If you had a stuffed alternator and the battery terminals were loose then it wont start again.

And yes sounds like the O2 sensors playing up.

Start your car up and just undo the negative battery terminal.

Ozzie if you disconnected the battery you'd break the circuit and your car would stall. Carby cars can run with a flat battery because they don't need any power for the ecu and such. Some diesels can run without a battery because they don't need spark.

Don't mean to be lecturing or anything tho

Nope you wont break the circuit.
    Try it.

The battery is only there to start the car. once it is started the alternator generates the power for the ecu.

Not disputing but I just had a quick look on Google and found this (one of many):

"Never disconnect the battery while an alternator is in
operation. Disconnecting the battery will result in
    Alternator Service
damage to the diodes due to the momentary high
voltage and current generated by the rapid collapse of
the magnetic field surrounding the field windings."

The other problem is that the momentary high voltage can fry the ECU etc.

Yes its a possibility but thats with all generators, not just cars.
Its rare but it can happen.

The car will still run though
