mixing oils???

hi all this is prob a silly question but can uh mix oils? I've just put in some castrol magnatec 10w40 but I havnt got enough to get it up to full, can I mix in some castrol edge 25w50 or some gtx 20w50?? Or will that damage the engine

My personal opinion is that it will cause absolutely no harm at all. There are no ingredients/additives in engine oil that will cause damage when mixed - the only negative is that additives may be diluted by adding a different oil....and a lot of additives are only snake-oil. Oil manufacturers will have you believe you cannot mix oils but offer no proof...only self-interest.
