    Default Vr manual conversion question

    Hey guys

I've got the manual box and tail shaft all bolted up then I realised i hadn't bolted up the heavy piece of steel that covers the bottom of the bell housing. I've attached some pics of the piece. How vital is the piece? Do i need to take the box out again or can i drop the steering rack and bolt it up that way?

Hmm, the gearbox cover for my T5 was just a shaped plate of tin and it could be installed/removed without removing anything else. I'm pretty sure you need it, otherwise dirt and water could just go up into your clutch.

Mine was the same mate - just a metal plate, covering the open hole at the bottom.
That other "heavy" piece is for the auto box.

yeah, sounds like you need to get the "clutch inspection cover plate" from the front of the bell housing. It just stops dirt and stuff getting into the bell housing. from memory you didn't need to take anything off to get to it. So, you should be right to just replace it without taking anything off.
I got an auto now so cant say for sure.
