At the start of the year I was collecting bits for a VT brake upgrade, but ended up finding a cheap set of slotted VS rotors, so just matched them up with good pads and left it at that.
The question is, now that I've had a VT master cylinder sitting in the shed all year, is there any advantages to installing just the master cylinder and keeping VS discs/calipers? I was thinking maybe it would just give a bit better pedal feel or something.

Is it just the master or master and booster. If its just the master you will possibly get a worse pedal, it will be too hard as its bigger then the 7/8 vs master and will displace more fluid quicker. Thus i wouldnt bother.
If you have the vt booster aswell i would say go for it as it has more boost power than the vs and will put more pressure on the calipers, hopefully resulting in a more responsive pedal. Only thing is possibly the pedal would be fairly high.
i did the conversion to vt brakes on my vs and didnt bother with the booster and master cylinder as my mates car feels no differnt to mine and his has the whole lot...jusr put the braided lines callipers and rotors on and it will feel a shit load better when using them in high speed stops ie:140km +
I did the Vt m/c & booster to the VN. Std VN rotors and calipers. Great great upgrade.

It's just the master that I have. I heard that when doing the full upgrade the booster wasn't as important as swapping over the master?

I'd rate the M/C & booster with stock calipers & rotors as the best value for money upgrade brakes wise ever $220.00. I'll pass on the expensive rotors and calipers for now.
The 88 wagon's brakes are ace now. And were ver cheap. Speak to Markovr - he makes the kits - posted to your door![]()

ahhh so is just for the vn and vp you need the kit then..?
Float like an elephant sting like a tree clubsport hits what doug does'nt see
Not 100% sure on that - but I'm guessing so. The std VN brakes are poor at best. The wreckers wanted $100 for a VN V8 M/C & booster. The VT "kit" from Markovr beats it easy. (I had a 1" M/C & booster in the VN wagon already) The booster had kaked it after the rear end accident.

i just him to make me one for my vs, havnt put it on yet should be good.
VT booster and master cylinder into a VN This should be useful for anyone wanting to do this on a VN.
So I should chase down a booster as well to make it worth installing?

If you have a plastic booster you can cut the screw off flush at the output pushrod of your original vs booster and fit up a vt master...the actual vt cylinder externally looks the same as a vs one but the internals are bigger.
Assistance is better with the vt style booster and the same unit is used on vt/x/y models ...its gives more help to your foot than the vs unit but you have to modify it to get it to fit a vs.
This is my vr that I rebuilt ....CLICK HERE to see my vr on Cardomain

considering that the M/C and booster are from a later model, and are bolt on. (no modifications needed)
do you need an engineers certificate? or not?
same goes with upgrading the discs and callipers?
Are your wagons calipers the standard solid items or the finned ones? I did the same conversion (using the finned calipers), although I used the VS brake fluid container as the VT one leaned back too much and looked stupid.
Top upgrade though, the brakes are awesome and certainly give you confidence... unlike the standard VN brakes![]()
I had what I thought were the same brakes in the VN V6 and the VP but I recently realised when I broke the booster on the VP that the V8 booster is twice the size and hence the entire reason for the crapy brakes on the V6's and the great brakes on the 5 litre, even tho it had the bigger rotors, 1 inch master and all that one missing part was stuffing up the V6's brakes. So don't forget the importance of a good booster![]()
Awesome, thanks for all the replies. I'll definately be chasing down a booster before I bother changing anything then
