Bought my 97 vs commodore bout 3 months ago and found that when i put the foot down i can hear from inside the car a ticking noise, sounds like the extractors or somthing? are they supposed to sound like that, and i dont think its a tappet. they are pacemakers.
probably blown an exhaust gasket, or a bolt not tight enough

it will make the O2 sensor lie if its in front of the sensor and also melt your catalytic converter too best to fix it
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

yeh as stated above make sure ur o2 sensors are in properly an check gaskets 4 leaks
