    Default Ute Tailgate help

When I boguht the ute, the handle/latch was snapped. I bought Genuine latch/handle from Holden and fitted it no worries. I can no open the tailgate no worries, but when shutting, it wont latch shut. I can manually turn it shut but the rod things wont come out. If i leave the tailgate for 20 minutes one of the latches comes out by itself and latches, other then that I have to manually do it with a screwdriver.
Any ideas? How do these normallly "come out" to latch.

i had a similar thing on my ute .

had to disconnect the tailgate centre black handle etc & disconnect the rods , bit tricky if i remember correctly .
then remove the screws from the ends & slide it out a bit & clean all the sh*t out of it .

edit: they normally slide out via spring pressure .

Cheers, yeah I had to disconnect the rods anyway to fit new latch, but ill pull the whole thing apart, and try and grease it and see if that helps.

    Oh spring? Wheres the spring?

Ok, Im trying to get them out as we speak, but **** me they are tight and I dont have a big enough screw driver, sent someone to the workshop to grab one, just waiting Hopefully I find these springs, will clean it all up and grease, HOPEFULLY thats the fix.
looking in the Holden Manual for the VU (which looks the same assembly) theres no springs.

remove/disconnect the rods etc for the centre lever assembly first , otherwise the end bits will not come out far enough to clean !

u need a larger star screwdriver ? for the end bits ?

Ahh, got it.... Yep no need to remove the side bits as you said, aslong as they are disconnected they come out. Mine took some force though they were that jammed up with crap lol. All out, cleaned nicely and regreased, works awesome thanks for your help.

No idea why the VU manual says to remove the tailgate limit cable bracket first.

Hey fellas just a quick question... Is there an easy way to reassable the locking mechanism for my tail gate? I just tried to nut mine out and got no where. I think the key may be the little gold clips that attach to the rods at the center lever assembly??
