Hi there,
I've been having trouble with my auto transmission (2nd gear) - been advised that the whole gear box needs to be replaced. I would really appreciate any advise on new vs reconditioned gear box. If I go ahead with replacing the whole gear box are there potentially other associated mechanical parts which would need to be looked at. As far as I am concerned the engine is fine. Is there anything I should be especially looking out for while "shopping" for a new gear box. Any comments would be greatly appreciated as I have limited knowledge about the matter.
Thanks, Barbara
i'm guessing the vr/vs auto gearboxes are similar & should b a straight swap .
if i'm wrong , i'm sure some1 will correct me... make sure it's a v8 auto u're after .
& get a new rear gearbox mount while u're there .
& the Barbara i know would make sure the mechanic is pretty hot 2![]()
Give the fluid a change, and look at installing a separate cooler for the tranny fluid. Might not do anything but worth doing as it might help, if it doesnt at least you will have the cooler to kelp keep the replacement tranny cool
