I've got the same prob :S I believe a window regulator is around $60 (going off prices at ozeparts.com.au) though through holden it might be a bit more... can't see it going over $100 or anything though.
Not sure how much it would be to replace it, but if you do it yourself you basically have to:
- *Disconnect Battery*
- Remove door trim (by unscrewing the door handle and removing the snipper - then you carefully just pull it off from the bottom right)
- Disengage and remove the glass (I did it to a VK once, real pain in the arse but I did it by myself. If I had help it probably would have been a lot easier)
- Drill out the rivets holding the regulator in.
Then just put it all back in. Personally, I'll be doing it myself
BTW: If you buy or have the Gregory's service and repair manual, there's detailed instructions in there on how to do it. If you decide to do it yourself and can't get a hold of the Gregory's, lemme know and I can send you the detailed instructions on how to do it.
Are you sure it isn't the power window switch or relay...or dry glass runners. Not much to go wrong with a rear window winder which rarely gets used one would imagine. When you pull the door trim off, try connecting power straight to the window motor - if it works OK then it is not the mechanism.
it the actual cable that is fraying and making a grinding noise, and from holden $480, there is power to the window so its not the power
$480 for a wire cable?!?! ... even after labour that sounds steep![]()
i think you have to get the whole electric window mechanism, inlcuding motor
that price is supply oonly lol
I repaired one from a Fairmont by removing the cable and replacing it with cable salvaged from a manual window setup - they are about the same length and you can get a manual winder from a trashed door at the wreckers for peanuts as they usually are unsaleable.
Most cars have the cable setup nowdays so there are plenty around.
Just about anything can be repaired.
