    Default 70mm throttle body

hey all just put a 70mm throttle body on my v6 VS and power gain is good but on start up car idles too high starts at 2000rpm then climbs all the way to 3250rpm.. this stopps after warmed up and after a good thrashing haha
idle returns to around normal 500-600rpm

just woundering wether i need a retune or not ??

    air fuel ratios maybe ??..
    any help would be great
    cheers

i would be guessing that due to different tolerances or this new throttle body being alot cleaner and allowing more air pas the butterfly that you ics is a bit old and sticky and is taking a while to adjust for the new throttle body try taking it off and cleaning with carby cleaner

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i thought at idle the butterfly is completely closed and it's just the IAC that lets air in, therefore size of said butterfly shouldnt affect idle. Maybe the computer just needs time to recalibrate something to do with the TPS?

    ics = idle control solenoid

and yes the butterfly is completely shut ..but nothing is perfect and could be allowing a small amount of air past causing a high idle until the ics can compensate for said air

    cheers doug

ok well i cleaned the ICS and disconnected the battery for 20 seconds and reconnected still idleing high ..
so i thought it may be my car so put it on my mates VT ecotec and same thing idling way to high .
so im thinking that retune is only option..

There will be too much air getting in one way or another past the butterfly, you might be able to adjust the stopper a little. 70mm is too big for a ecotec anyway. You need a fair decent 5 litre to see a gain with one

Hmmm i have been thinking bout putting a bigger throttle body on my VS and if 70mm is to big how big would you recommend? I also heard that putting a bigger throttle body on does require a tune, if this is the case is this something that you can do greenfoam?

Sorry to jump in but how do you "reset" the ics as my auto started sliping heaps bad with a 65mm tb but just replaced the box as it was rooted so im hoping to get it sorted

    Thanx

as with all remanufactured throttle bodies u may need to adjust the way the butterfly sits on the shaft. check for rub marks in the bore and compare with the other side. also hold up to the light when closed and u can see. the most i bored out a vn to vr throttle body it was 74mm and then it was way to close. the max i could get out of a vs eco one was 69mm without making it dangerously thin. if its really 70mm you may experience warping .

u'll find ur shift points are up the shit too, which a tune is the only fix
when i had 69mm throt installed on mine, no power difference, just seamed like it coz of the quick throttle response
