hey guys, i just bought a vs calais and the passenger airbag cover has been warped by the sun and the side closest to the windscreen is sticking out, i have viewed posts on how to fix it and such but was wondering if it would pass a roadworthy as it is or if it would needed to be fixed?
thanks guys

Shouldn't. My car passed rego and all sides of mine have lifted so that you can get your fingers under it. It's only a piece of trim, and shouldn't impede the airbag.
This is a very common problem with these airbag covers.
i just bought a vs calais myself with the same problem, can someone post the link on how to repair or where would i find the post?
you wont fail roadworthy coz of this
as mentioned, roadworthy shouldn't be impacted because of this. it's simply a cover that attached to the airbag door, and lifts in event of an accident for the bag to deploy.
try a search on teh forums bud, but there isn't much that can be done short of buying a new one. even they're rare as hen's teeth and not something the faint hearted sould tackle

The VZ is here! About time!
I had a bit of a laugh when I saw your post as it is typical of the cars to have his problem. I removed mine (Ripped it off) and went to Holden to get another one.......They don't stock them anymore. I did the usual and went to 'Pick and payless' and found four still intact on the dash of the cars. Funnything was they were all warpped hahahahaaha.
So I go a brain storm......I purcahsed these chrome looking floor mats that look like the mess metal type. I cut them out and glued them to the dash. It will not intefer with the deployment of the bags because it is the cover only. It looks like shiny metal but is soft and I think looks really unusual. Just an idea if you have run out of otpions like I did.
Mine was the same, i just glued the cover down and bought a dash mat, sweet as
hey guys i have a 96 vs commodore side airbag cover was warped so i ripped it off and it is actually torn so i cant glue it back on it will look terrible. does anyone know where to find airbag covers this topic has been annoying me for a while the whole car is complete but it has no aibag cover and looks silly if anyone has a link or suggestion would appreciate it thanks.
wreckers ??? !
My uncle had this problem on his VS, and he's not the type to screw around with stuff himself, so he paid a mechanic or some such about 400 bucks to fix it....I would hope the mechanic didn't just glue it down.
Does gluing it down impede the function of the airbag in the event of an accident?
not sure if this would work but.
would it be possible to get a cover from a new model or somthing and use it for your cars.. even if you have to work and mould it a bit.
if so theres an idea for you guys
No. Covers from newer models have completely different dimensions.
I wouldn't want to lay a bet that any modifications made to the airbag, even if only cosmetic, will cause a fail in a roadworthy check. Once you change any part of something that is covered by the ADR you are supposed to get an engineers certificate of compliance otherwise you are in breach of the ADR. All government regulations are complex and open to interpretation - the following suggests that airbags can be removed if they were optional equipment (as were VR-VS)
I just had a quick search and found this at the SA transport site:
Airbag as Standard Equipment
If an airbag system is standard equipment on a particular vehicle model or variant it must be present,
complete and operational. (The airbag is considered essential for maintaining the vehicle’s compliance
with the ADRs.)
Optional Airbag in Vehicle Required to Meet ADR 69/..
If a vehicle was required to meet ADR 69/.. and it was originally fitted with an airbag that was optional
equipment on that particular model or variant, the airbag need not be present, complete or operational
provided the vehicle is fitted with all equipment (eg steering wheel, steering column, seat belts) that would
have been fitted had the vehicle been originally manufactured without the airbag; i.e. the vehicle must be
shown to still comply with the requirements of ADR 69/..
Optional Drivers Airbag in Vehicle Not Required to Meet ADR 69/..
For a vehicle not required to meet ADR 69/.. and originally fitted with a driver’s airbag that was optional
equipment, it need not be present, complete or operational provided the impact energy absorption
characteristics of the steering wheel and steering column are equivalent to those of the non-airbag variant;
i.e. the vehicle must comply with the requirements of ADR 10/..
Optional Passenger Airbag in Vehicle Not Required to meet ADR 69/..
For a vehicle not required to meet ADR 69/.. and originally fitted with a passenger airbag that was optional
equipment, it need not be present, complete or operational
So I dunno.....mine ain't lifting and I'm happy about that!
whats the best glue to use to make sure it never comes off again lol!!!
