what are some thing's i can do
to make my VR Commodore sound tuff?
without breakin the bank.
mm i'd like to know too, any tips or tricks??....
mine sounds tuff but needs a little more.....
yeah... don't
nothing worse than a loud na v6 - or "tuff" as you call it - sounds like sh*t, cheapens your car, and makes you look like a try hard boy racer.
if you want tuff, get a v8... no offence meant by this mate, just my view on things
yeh fair enough
but we all cant afford v8's
nd becuase of these shit laws
we all cant drive v8s either
man, why don't you just use cash then instead of limbs?
why the stupid response, because people need to learn how to use the bloody search button. shit i would be confident in saying that this exact topic has probably been covered 10 times.
If you want your VR to sound "better" (not tough), then just put a 2.5" catback exhaust on it, no resi, and a set of Pacemaker extractors. That's about as good as a V6 will sound. Any louder or more open exhaust wise, and they start to sound really tinny and horrible. Like a Lancer with a big exhaust, you know, that loud farting noise.
Pacies with a 2.5" cat back with no resi will make a V6 sound alright. Nice low rumble. You can usually pick up Pacies on Egay for sweet **** all.

look at your rear muffler, now follow the pipe towards the motor. you will find a flexi joint just above the diff other wise known as the (hockey stick) there is an exaust flange there undo the two bolts. i cant rember what size they are 17ish maybee lol pull the flange apart.
Now your rear muffler is seprate from the rest of your system, take out the gasket and keep it incase you need to make the exaust quiet and stock again.
Now get one of the nuts and thread it back on to the stud.tighten it all the way up. I usally put it on the stud closest to the front of the car this nut is now acting as a spacer put the flange back together and tighten up the spare nut on the spare stud.
DONE!!!!
now an eplination, What you have done is, at our newly created spacer, all the exaust noise is excaping here, COOLIEZ !!! most of the gas too but some dose flow on through the rear muffler and to the un suspecting eye (at theback of the car) there is still exaust gas coming out the rear muffler.
this sounds good and dosnt cost a cent.![]()
Ps dont give me shit for this post coz I'll look up your IP's hunt you down and KILL YOU!!!!! , nah just jokes critisim would be great.
Why not save yourself the hassle of Police and heavy EPA fines for that, and just do it all legitimately with an exhaust and extractors.
That mod isn't worth the defect and fines that will follow it. And it will sound bloody awful.

I have a nice low rumble at low revs and a crackley bark at take off when heavy on the throttle (goes quiet though when throttle is eased up)
sounds crap at 2500rpm ... not really drony but wooooooo kind of sound..... so i try to avoid staying at those revs for too long
here is an example how mine sounds .... over revved it a bit though ... and yes there is condensation spewing out the exhast pipe cause i didn't warm it up
YouTube - VR commodore Exhaust note.... 2.5in system
wooo hoo, im one set of extractors away from sounding like that myself!
same here. alls i need is some paccies or sumfin..
yer well ive found a joint that will fit em, now i just need too find a set of extractors i can afford.
If you want to be really cheap about it, replace all your rubber exhaust hangers with bits of wire. It works, I lost of my rubber ones once and bent up a welding electrode to go in instead and it sounded cool.
pull a lead off that way ppl will think you will have a huge cam
Float like an elephant sting like a tree clubsport hits what doug does'nt see
If you want it too sound "tuff" heres a solution to the problem lol. You can take this as a joke or serious. Me and some mates have done it before and it sounds crazy, but its obviously illegal i think? And not good for the car
Cut the exhaust off at the diff, makes it sound bloody crazy xD
Or just get a 3inch exhaust and get extractors etc and your set. My VS has this and its got a real nice deep V8 tone when on low revs (the tuff sound your after) but when u give it some, it has a distinctive growl like the Golf R32 if you have ever heard them?
My exhaust ends at the diff due to not getting around to fixing the end peice, and it doesn't sound much different. Looks crap from behind too, it's obvious something is missing.
Yeah cut it at the diff and watch the cops flop their wangs out ready for an ass raping. That would sound bloody awful on a V6. Highly doubt it sounds like a V8, bit hard to get a V8 note from an engine that missing 2 cylinders. A 3" exhaust on a V6 is a bit big. you would really only end up losing power. Too much flow is not a good thing.
On my Senator i ran it dumped at the diff one day (didn't drive it out on main roads, just up my street) just to see how it sounds. I have a 3" cat back with HSV extractors and a hot dog. Even on a V8 it didn't sound that great, needs to be muffled a bit to get a nice note IMO.

And as Coby said, you will save yourself getting done by the men and woman in blue, and the ol EPA fine isnt good at all.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
My VS has a 3 inch exhaust and it sounds pretty sweet, but yeah its kinda massive haha
We had the exhaust cut at the diff once, and it sounded alright at times. Id just go with that other guy. Save your money and a massive hsv 5.7 ltr and just give it some and enjoy the pleasure going into your ears. Or just wack a V8 into the car u got now, probz not worth it tho.
I was considering putting a V8 into my VS when i get onto my opens. Found a 700hp 5.7L with a turbo for $7000, but then u gotta pay for fitting unless ur a mechanical wiz.
Just spend abit on a nice exhaust system, you can get a 2 and a half catback for like $300 from good old ebay if u wanna trust it. I have and its worth it haha
