    Default starter problem?

when starting my car today, it has been really slow to start, it clicks slowly once, then slowly again (a second or 2 between) and then catches and starts. it sounds like its almost a flat battery to start but then catches and wondering whats wrong with it? both the alternator and battery are new within 3 months. i'm thinkin maybe its the starter motor? any ideas?

Since you have changed the battery and alternator i will leave them out, sounds like the solenoid on the start is playing up, you might be able to clean it using WD40 etc. I have done it on a friends fwd car before with out removing the startermotor, just remember that it has a spring in it so be carefull when opening it up.

I'd also double check the battery terminals - see if they get hot when trying to start - if they do it indicates they are dirty/loose. Also check the starter terminals and also the starter relay. As tt460 says, it could also be the solenoid (which requires starter motor removal) but on high mileage cars it will fail. It may also be possible to get some WD40 into it without removal...never tried that but sounds like a good idea.
I'd also measure the battery voltage after the car has sat overnight - it should be 12.8V - if much below you have a slightly flat battery.
