ive already got a cat back 2 1/2" sports exhaust fitted not long ago.
my car is a vr series II v6
me my brother and my dad were talking about it today and wondering..
how much extra power does it actually give me??
cat back isnt a huge amount by itself, same as headers by themselves, but put em together and u can gain anywhere from 5-20kw
i noticed a difference with CAI and 2 and a half catback.
it makes a noticeable difference, you feel it mainly in your mid range(well i did)
i dont know if it gained more power there or if it just moved the power higher in the rev range but meh![]()
well im pretty sure it felt a bit more power when i got it done
if it was 1-2 kw it wouldent hav made a difference to the feel
its taking a couple stock shit mufflers away and putting one smaller sports one there. that with the larger pipe would give it a fair bit better flow.
full system with extractors is what i wanted but it cost to much
it all depends on engine condition, kms, type of headers. yes by now most vr's are kicking well over 200,000kms but there are some freak engines out there![]()
Sounds about right to me, I've seen a few that made 105 rwkw stock and just a litttle over 115 (about 118 MAX) is the most they will make with tune/exhaust/headers so there's not alot to gain from each one is there. Most of them will max out at under 115 rwkw. I still have the opinion it's not worth doing more than a second hand 2.5inch and the cheapest tune you can get on a V6 because 10 rwkw isn't worth much money, you can gain almost that with a really good CAI (wont show on a dyno). Alot of people swear these things pick up massive power with simple mods but mostly it's all in the mind, they just aren't that kind of motor

Read my thread in the Pub. P-Plate laws and engine mods. Should be able to help you out.
According to vic roads us P-Platers aren't allowed to drive a car with "an engine that has been modified to increase its performance". Most people class extractors and sports exhaust as a performance mod.
People are hung up on a power figure when it means nothing really. A car with 500rwkw can be slower than one with 400rwkw. It's how it is put to the ground that matters, and that is when the torque curve and gearing comes into it.
Fitting an exhaust will have almost no effect on power output but will affect the torque curve. It feels like it has more go because it has changed where the peak torque is available and for how long. Some people confuse this with having more power, when it is in fact the torque that changes. Especially after fitting extractors.
If ya want power get an 8.
why would you bother with droney sounding exhausts on v6's in the first place
