hey guys
i own a vr v6 and when i start it up after a few days without being started or on a cold nite. it blows a **** load of steam from the exhuast. i realise its normal to blow steam but there is alot more than normal. i have a cold air intake , 2.5 inch exhuast , bellmouth off ..also once the car is warmed up the steam dissapears.
any1 know why it blows so much steam?
cheers jordan
its normal. the products of combustion are ( simplified) carbon dioxide and water vapour - steam.
When you start it up your engine is cold and zorst is cold so the water vapour condenses into tiny droplets that you can see by the time it comes out the exhaust tip. When your engine warms up it still puts out the same amount of water vapour but you just can't see it.
Dunno why commos appear to make more steam than other cars tho , just a holden thing i guess.
If your using coolant then i would be concerned that you have a dud head or head gasket.
mine used to steam more when the inlet gaskets started to go and lost coolant pretty slowly
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
i dont think it would be the head because it doesnt blow any smoke after that and the car is certenly not missing any power. as for the head gasket. any other ways to know if its going??
cheers
My old VP berlina used to do the same thing, as long as it does smell like coolant or you are loosing coolant dont worry about it ,also cars like to blow steam when they have been sitting unstarted for a couple of days especally when they are parked outside
nothing to worry about
