In short they change how hard they shift and what revs/speed they change at Stage 3 is normally manualised in the fact you have to change it between the gears or it will not shift up or down

stage 2 will hold gear even at max revs. and combined with a Corvette servo gives hard and firm shifts.

    also apparently slow's clutch wear...

Stage 3 Shift Kit is completly manualised auto. you HAVE TO shift it from 1-2-3-D and downshift to D-3-2-1. to stop....

go with stage 2. buy a TRANSGO shift kit.... (try get it off ebay cause they are cheap as chips compared to some auto placces ebay want $219 and tranny mechanic will want 300 area)

you should at least get a service and get it checked and any parts that are worn replaced also, that will ensure its going to perform at its best with the shift kit

costs have been posted by members on here from $250-400 if you supply the kit and 500 for supply and install

I have heard that if your auto isn't in good condition then a shift kit will just kill it quicker, and that they are only good in the long term on a box that is in decent condition. Can't say I'm 100% sure on that, maybe somebody else could clarify.

I installed a transgo shift kit, larget boost valve and a corvette servo into my reasonable condition 4l60e.
The shift kit has just about finished it off. This is behind a 5 litre btw.
Its been in since september last year, and I'm noticing it starting to flare between gears.
It might be just the band is loose, but I'm sure this a direct result of the shiftkit.

I'm not trying to put you off it, a love my shiftkit, its fantastic. But if your trans is already playing up, don't expect it to last too long.

    Cheers,
    -Tom

STAGE 1: Is better for towing and helps control torque I'm pretty sure
STAGE 2: Racing style shift, much harder and firmer shift and holds it in gear at higher revs
STAGE 3: Completely Manualises the auto, makes it like a clutchless manual in other words, it will only shift when you shift it on the control stick

stage 3 is poo... unless you're like... i dunno.. haha.
    they fail
stage 2 is good... like everyone said.
    stage 1 is pretty pointless...
get your box serviced before you even think about getting a shift kit!

im guessing perth prices are diff to melb prices..... but last year my ex paid 650 to get a stage 2 with corvette servos in his VS ute.

i went stage 1.5 ( described in the sticky at the top of this section ) without the corvette servo because the 4l60e doesnt like them and tends too die an early death or so i was told by every mechanic i rang.
mine has 200,000 on the clock so i decided to play it safe.

lukesvxberlina; the corvette servo is the main part that engages 2nd from 1st. it has a larger surface area to push on therefore giving you a quicker shift. theres a heap of info on here, have a gander at the sticky or a quick search

pillzor; installing a shiftkit with the servo can actually increase auto life. less time to change gear means less heat.

the servo changes pretty hard just by itself saves the 2nd gear band burning up and holds the band tighter once in gear to stop the drum slipping inside it.with a decient shiftkit she will be solid thats for sure puts a lot of stress on things but the transgo shitkit can be tailored to suit your needs doesnt have to be chirping every gear if you dont want it too.the servo is also part of the 3rd gear circuit and helps the speed of the 3rd gear change
