hi i have a 1994 vr commodore the box is slipping under heavy acc in 1st 2nd and 3rd and takes 3 seconds to change gear ok so that being said i know its the bands and servos especialy after pulling apart the box and finding a handfull of grinded metal and the oil being a sparkly gold colour .
my question is does the replacement box have to be from a vr commodore as there are many vn vp and vs commodores at the wreakers but no vr's i have been told that there were some differences between the models but is it possibal to just get a vn box or vs box to run in it or will i have to find an infamous vr box interstate

and also if anyone has done this before please let me know the outcome
Generally speaking, VN/VP boxes are a no go. It's possible to make them work, but not without a lot of mucking around (VN/VP boxes are hydraulic which use a kick down cable to determine shift points, whilst the VR onwards are electronic).
Unfortunately, your easiest option is to get a VR box. There are a few subtle differences between the VR and VS boxes, but I don't know what they are or if they are a problem.
As above - there is nothing wrong with the VR box - VS will fit bit needs a wiring modification (do a search on this forum). Least hassle way is to use the VR box.
