hey all,
just discovered my cars first leak the other day, it has coolant in it but im not sure about the other liquid. its dark so you would think its engine oil but it has a bit of a red tinge in it so im thinking that the radiator has split somewhere allowing the two liquids to connect and then its leaking from somewhere.
the leak looks like its coming from between the engine and trans. if anyone knows of this problems or can shed some light it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Chris.
most likely thetrans cooler in the radiator tank has split thus pushing trans fluid into the water jacket. as for the leak it could be a heater hose or possibly a welsh plug at the rear of the engine
would the heater still work if the heater hose was busted.
If its coolant and red oil it will be transmission fluid leaking... I'd check all the radiator hoses and transmission cooler hoses and fittings and then degrease the lot, go for a drive and see exactly where it is coming from.
Having said that, if coolant is mixing with the transmission fluid itself, I wouldn't be driving anywhere. Coolant will destroy your transmission... its an extremely common problem on BA falcons, the radiator trans cooler packs it in and coolant ends up in the transmission, and that means an expensive rebuild.
