Hey guys,
A mate of mine just purchased his first car a vr wagon. As i was driving it home for him coming into his street the gearbox starting to leak quite bad so i pulled up on his lawn and it sat there for about 5 mins. then wen we came back out to move it out the back yard it would not go into any gear at all... no clunks nothing
I got under the car yesterday to take a look were the leak is coming from and it seems it is coming from a small hole in the bottom of the tranny. Not sure if this hole is meant to be there or not it looks to be man made but not sure.
Anyone got any ideas on what is going on ? and can the gearbox still go into gear with no oil in it ?
Thanks in advance James
im pretty sure the gear box does not go into gear without oil.........
and i wouldnt try it anyway.....
where is the hole?...on the sump?...or...?......no oil is ment to come out of the box....at all....
let me find a pic of a gearbox and ill kinda see if u can mark it
if it's a fast leak i'd say it's a blown pump bush. apparently common on early 4L60E's, and being that it leaks into where the converter sits, it could come out anywhere in the bellhousing and you'll be looking in the wrong place
my pump bush blew and within 30 seconds i'd lost enough trans fluid to inhibit movement. makes a lovely white cloud when it hits the exhaust too

box has to be removed, might also check the torque convertor while your there, mine blew when the end of the torque convertor sheared off
