Default Mods needed for VS 5L to run low 13s

hi guys, At the moment i have a VS 5L 5spd with pacemaker tri Y extractors, 2.5" exhaust, LSD and a 3.7 diff centre. At the moment the best it runs is 14.4 at the drags. I want the car to run high 12s or low 13s but want the car to remain naturally aspirated. What mods would i need and what kind of money would i need to spend. I would like the car to also be reliable and be able to drive it on the weekends without a problem,a real emphasis on reliability. I live in Sydney/ North shore any help or businesses you can recommend would be great, thanks alot.

put a ls1 on in it with a cam and edit, whilst not the cheapest it will be the easiest way of doing it.
$2k should get you ls1 with box ecu and harness will be auto
fitting cost no idea depends what you can do your self.
$1500 should get you a edit and cam installed. With enough power to run a 12

then its a matter of running a 12

Hi man I've run a 9.031 1/8th mile 660 foot, with a Auto VP with 3.45 gears stock stall and a 2.5 inch twin cat exhaust which would be a bit quicker than yours if you compare that to your half track time. And I'm also on a mission to run low 13's. High 12's really. Since that time I've got a twin system which gained me alot of power and currently over this winter putting a cam/manifold and ported head on it which should give me the time I'm after. I'm using a 212/222 cam, modified banana manifold with 10 inch runners and the heads will have about 80 thou taken off them (and ported). I'f you follow something like that you should get your time of low 13's considering my cars a bit lighter

I'm doing mine myself, I have a budget of about $1300 to run a 12 but apart from the machine work on the head I have all the tools/welders etc to do it. It would be fairly costly to get someone else to do the work, you will need to buy a manifold and throttle body that's going to be the best part of 2 grand and maybe another 2 grand to get the heads machined and the cam put in

This is a very expensive job man. people thinking they can do it cheap are kidding themselves!
I think to run consistant low 13s, high 12s (depending how you drive it) you should just stroke it. That way your torque will go through the roof, and youll have a fresh engine. having said that, not to cheap. plus when you need your next power fix, you can start playing with bigger cams etc.

Depends what you wanna do, if your not worried with luxuires then just strip the car to a shell with enough bits just to keep it legal. Best way to fast cheap is to reduce your weight. Grab some alloy heads and a block too while your at it, fair bit of weight gone there in one hit.

My vs statesman runs a 14.4 with an exhaust, cold air and a worked auto box.

i think 4.11's, stripped car, slicks would be the best way to get into the 13's.

    Nitro is also an option.

I only suggest these as your post seems to be more about times, If your looking for power, You cant go past a supercharger for price/performance.

    Oh and a rip shift

im not sure how far you can go with the stock manifold, but why not rebuild the 5L so its fresh with flat top pistons, shave a lil more off the heads and get a medium sized cam? that should give you the grunt and reliability, the cam choice is very important i cant really recommend one as i havent fiddled with 5l much, but im sure from reading greenfoams thread he definately knows what he is talking bout i'd be taking his advice where possible if it was me.
