I painted mine with AutoOne black acrylic in a pressure pack can, about 4 years ago. I applied it directly to the trim, without primer or undercoat and with a good result. No flaking or peeling. I rubbed the trim down with very fine wet and dry abrasive paper.

I would have to agree in the end thats the best way,

I was buying heaps of bits of trim a year or two ago to test on, ended up with VHT or K&H cant remember which one, vinyl and plastic paint, give it a rub down with some fine wet and dry and at the most use a little stop putty in any minor pitting that may have occured, thens traight on with the black, leave it alone for two weeks then hit it with meguires black trim polish.

    Worked well for me.
