    Default Idler pulley problem

Hey all, (first post in a while )

Well just recently i noticed a squeaking noise coming from the engine bay (who would have thought!!) ...i automatically assumed a slipping fanbelt however this isnt the case....i listened and tried to play it by ear but i couldnt place which pulley it was coming from...so using my special "Screwdriver Stethoscope" i listened closely to the auto tensioner pulley and it makes a really harsh grinding sound through the "stethoscope"...i just want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if i just have to replace the pulley/bearing or the whole unit? If so is it a hard job?

    Cheers fellas

I'm fairly sure Repco have only started stocking metal ones. One cost me $45 (Holden were only a few dollars more). They will last much longer than the plastic ones.

This is also a good time to change all three.

the only problem with the metal ones is they don't have a lip on the outside .... so when your water pump seal goes and pisses coolant everywhere your belt can slip right off the pulley and you loose it. Luckily mine was found hanging on the sway bar, great save !!
