climate control back light in a VS

Hey guys.
I have i VS berlina and the problem today is with the climate control.
When ever i drive at night my climate control buttons don't seem to be back lit. The screen lights up fine but i cant tell what any of the buttons do with out turning on the interior light. Its been like this for a long time, but i swear when i first got the car it was back lit.

My question is, can any one tell me if the buttons are supost to be back lit, and if so is there a way to fix mine?

Yes, the buttons are supposed to be back lit. I had a problem with the screen not lighting up in mine so I just bought a second hand one off ebay for about $30. Been fine for 3 years now.

Replacing the LED's requires soldering I believe. Too much hassle. Easier just to plug in a working 2nd hand one.

T5 neo wedge globes are the replacement ones for the back lights.
