Default Temp gauge not working after belt replacement.

Hello everyone and thanks for the info already posted on this foum, its helped me alot.

Anyway the serpenine belt shredded the other day, very close to home so no probs, got that replaced and it also took out the top radiator hose so replaced that too. All was good ut the engine check light stayed on. Did the diagnostic test using the info from this forum and came up with error 12 and 15..........cut a long story short the belt had knocked the wiring off so fixed that and now the check light doesnt stay on.

Only problem is the temp gauge now doesn't register at all and having had overheating problems in the past I a scared to drive it as I rely heavily on the gauge to let me know what the engine is doing.

Having spent a bit already on parts Im not too keen to take it to an auto spaky just yet. Have read on these forums that i could be the sensor or sender but im not too sure which is which.

    Anyone got any clues....TIA

    Karl

Either that, or do the VS V6's have a seperate coolant sensor for the temp gauge? Or is that just for the 5 litres?

    Thanks for your help guys.

Found the problem it was a connector that slides onto the small brass nipple under the thermostat.

    Cheers

Yep thats the one, a rectangular shaped black plastic connector from memory. Thats the sender unit for the gauge.

The thicker brass cylindrical one with wiring going to it below the sender is the actual coolant sensor, and the ECU uses this one for coolant temperature readings.
