    Default oil light

hey does any 1 know or have any ideas why my oil light keeps coming on. Oil level is fine only just happened tonight after a bit of a thrash. Is it my oil pump or oil switch. It is a 5l statesman wit 270000k on the clock

if your oil switch is leaking oil on the plug thats a good sign, could also be main or conrod bearings is your motor sounding noiser?

Could be a faulty switch... or it could actually be poor oil pressure, especially as the oil would have thinned out a bit with a good thrashing. A common problem is that the oil pickup gets blocked, particularly on the 5 litre engine, especially if oil changes have been skipped in the past, the pickup can get blocked with sludge etc. With 270,000 on the clock things are inevitably going to be wearing out, but i'd start with flushing the engine oil with engine oil cleaner, dumping the oil and oil filter and replace with a new filter and oil and see how you go then.

I know the ecotecs are known for there oil pickup issues with getting blocked and what not.
Recomended to change oil and filter every 5000ks or so instead of 10

hey, my vs 5ltr has bout 230,000 and after drivin up into the mountain ranges, the oil light was just flickering while in drive and idling, its the oil just gets hot and loses its viscosity, so less oil pressure. oh and oil changes at evey 5000 are the go!!
