Unless it's tuned for higher octane there'll be no performance gain in using it. Most premium fuels have extra detergents added to them to keep the fuel system clean, so the occasional tank may have it's benefits.

It may be true that the computer cant advance timing enough to actually make full use of 95, but most cars definitely sound and feel smoother running the higher octane.

Fully agreed. You will never be able to achieve gains from using better quality fuel than your car was designed to run.

Premium keeps your car cleaner even though you make other reasons up for being a cheapskate

Also it does run smoother, and no, this isnt placebo effect. Call it personal opinion, but I can justify 6 dollars a tank more to keep my baby happier.

I run 91, but every now and then i put 98 in it for a long trip to give her a bit of a flush through. I think it actually uses more fuel on 98.

after testing with various cars, including a stocko vx HBD with an ecotec, yes it ran a alot smoother on premium but consumption wise was only about 50ks different..

98 is really a waste of time, if your not tuned to it your engine cant make full use of the burn which is actually slower than a fuel with lower octane

    Yeah the ecu...

The stock computer cant advance the timing enough to make use of the better burn
