hey guys does anyone no how much it will cost to get one of the big end bearings fixed on a ecotec or should i just put another motor in it ?![]()

it depends if the bearings have scored your bearing journals of your crank. if thats the case expect to pay for regrinding the shaft, then u will need 20 thou over sized bearings. new sump gasket and rear main. and the whole process of ripping it out. then u could go get a secondhand engine and find out 200 kms down the track it blows again
its usually better to get them all done as well, your prolly looking at 1500 plus including labour
if sumone said to you that there ecotech was removed from a vy could u personally tell?
also if your getting another ask to see if its running or if its out of the car ask if u can have a look under the rocker cover
a mate was going to go buy a 700 dollar vr engine last year. over the phone he asked if he could have a look under the rocker and they told him to go **** himself
yeh true ayy it got a few options but lack of funds coz i paid $900 for the vs took it to the mechanics nd cost me another 900 for seals front struts mainsfolds nd other stuff so atm got no money unless i sell sum of my other toys should i really wast my time on it ,it is my first car nd iam only 17 atm thinking of getting a loan when iam 18 and gettan a vyss ute

dont get a loan, i fell into that hole and its taking 70 percent of my dole. learn to do sum of the seals and that yourself, i learnt a fair bit from working on my own car . ebay helps out a fair bit to get parts cheap and the rest is commonsense. one thing u did learn out of this is that nothing is bullet proof
yeh true if i was still working as a apprentice diesal mechanic i would get my loan now i was earing lik 600 hundread nd up a week on a 1st year wage but got made redundent =( 4months ago so now iam going bak to tafe for another pre app next week so iam stuff on center link payments aswell so i duno atm id rather get sum thing newer like a vuss ute or a vy iam lost atm lol

haha redundences suck corn my friend, i was working as fitter team leader at my last permanent job , earnt over 900 in one day, but average was 1500 plus a week. and when i got my loan i was diesel meching it and always thought i was gonna have job sercurty for life, then when reality hits u know you have cocked up
Yeah, dont get a loan, even if you think you can afford it, I was paying 420 a month in repayments as well as insurance, and petrol and rego, I was only earning 2 grand a month and the only thing I wanted to do, even though i loved the car to bits, was get rid of the fu**ing thing.
If you get a second hand motor, atleast get it from a wreckers. Most will atleast have a 3 month warranty with it them. Or if its second hand from private sale make sure you can see it running first. If you do that your atleast gonna get a working motor. Low k's or mid k's on it, will it matter if your gonna get a new car in a year or 2, by the sounds of it the resale value of the car is not goin to be real high anywayz.
lol yeh i wont a new comy next year and the i only had this vs comy for a week before i did this so i duno the only thing thats every lasted me is a honda dirt bike every over time i blow motors ,bearing etc... its really annoying like already iam not even 18 nd dont have my ps but i hav alreay blew three commys up 1st on vn manual 2nd vn berlina nd 3rd my new vs so iam thinking of a new car maybe it will last lol

lmao i dont really go that hard thow in the wet i love to hit up hallam my local industrail astate thats awsummm atm my step says i can hav his hq ute wit a fully rebuilt 350 wit sum cam work nd stally nd alot of other things lol but i think it would be to dangerous for me lol

ya learning plus u cant have his ute till your off ya p plates, ive still got my first car, i blew up 3 engines when i was on my p plates while u have your car u might as well have a stab at fixing it yourself, its not that hard and there is alot of people on here that can help you out. a lil bit of convidence can go a long way also
just check the engine before u buy, takes bugger all time to take of a rocker cover, if its sludgy means its either over heated or the oil hadnt been changed for a while, sumtimes they are even willing to remove a head, thats where u check for a lip on the top of the bore or to see if the bores are discolored from over heating. also check in the exhaust ports to see if she is burning oil (residue in the ports) and while the engine is out it take bugger all time to take off the sump and check the oil pickup for being caked with crap or the bearing caps to see if it needs new bearings
