Default ticking in engine bay but not from engine..HELP

    hi guys...

my car has recently developed a ticking noise, but it sounds more like something arcing out than from the engine... so using a length of hose i managed to isolate the cause of the ticking...behind the drivers side cylinder head on the V6 ecotec, between the head and the firewall is a black box with wires going to / from it... (sorry too dark for a pic)... this is def where the ticking noise is coming from... Does anyone know what this box is and what it does???

    cheers

    Ron

Possibly the purge solenoid one pipe goes to to the manifold and the other to the purge tank. (at least on mine its does)

    now weire getting somewhere....

does your "purge solenoid" have wiring with a red connector/plug?

and if its constantly ticking does that mean its stuffed, or is something else buggered and causing it to tick??

    ok,

found out that it is the purge solenoid, it has two vacuum lines, one runs to the top of the charcoal canister and the other to the TB, is this how they should be? And as the ticking is still sending me nuts, can i just disconnect the wires from the solenoid?
