Default Best v6 Buick mods for $2,000

hey guys, i was wanting to put some money into performance on my buick 94 VR commodore.

just wanted a list of things i could add to get some good power, at a reasonable price (as im not working, im a student).

so what mods do you think would be a good idea, how much do they cost, and do they give much power?

keep in mine i already have:

    2.5" cat back complete exhaust
    v8 throttle
POD filter (as my gas setup will not allow a CAI) damn converter.
    performance chip

    cheers guys. much appreciated.

Check the stickies at the top of the VR-VS section, or search...

The chips probably not worth it though.

best thing you'll ever buy for an auto commodore is a corvette servo in the tranny, you didnt mention if it was auto or not.

Otherwise roller rockers will put a bit of wind up your car's skirt.

Who here has used MACE's plenum spacers? I only found out about them a couple weeks ago and they seem alright.
I would ask in the sponsers section but I'm pretty sure I know what I would be told from them...

2.5" cat back complete exhaust YES
v8 throttle Wont improve performance becuase your engine is already pulling in enough air throught normal throttlebody, if it was worked and air was RESTRICTED through a v6 throttlebody then yes upgrade would be the idea
POD filter (as my gas setup will not allow a CAI) damn converter. gas setup not allowing CAI? havent herd of that before. If it can have a POD filter and a standard intake, then you should be able to have a OTR CAI
performance chip Greenfoam TUNE is the way to go

    As for anything else
    - Pacemaker extracotrs
    - Or even a MANUAL CONVERSION?

I'll be chasing low-end power, so did they give any of that? And less importantly, did they make much of a difference to economy?

I have a feeling they only make them for ecotecs, so this may not be the place to be discussing this

    no worries mate

this is to the OP, have you got heat shield or pod enclosure for ur pod? if you havnt i would or change it back to the orginal airbox as it will just be sucking hot air and you will get less preformace from it

In order of most effective to least...
Custom ground cam (OR higher ratio rockers, but Buick only go up to 1:8 I think, looking at a 20hp gain)
    Diff gears.
Greenfoam Tune (leave this til last though)
Stage 2 Transgo Shiftkit and Corvette Servo.
    Pacemaker Extractors.
VS S/C CAI (ditch the pod, LPG shouldn't stop you having this)

Cant get plenum spacers because its a vr not a vs
CAI should be perfectly fine, There is no logical explanation that gas hates cold air?
Is the tune a greenfoam tune? if not, then id buy a greenfoam one

    Here is my recommendation
    Wade 992a or 1114a cam....
Shave heads a little (the vr came with 9.0:1 compression ratio anyway)
    and get a high stall
foam tune to suit the mods

If you have enough money at the end, get a spool and 3.45-3.9 diff gears
(i'll give you details of the guy who done mine damn cheap, he also done VSIIBerlinaL67 if i remember correctly)

OR! send greenfoam a message and see what he thinks

IF you dont get a cam, atleast get diff gears, spool/lsd and shiftkit....

For two grand I'd be going straight and buying a V8 conversion, there is no way to get that much (and future potential) from a V6 for 2 grand.

If that's not doable, then like VN2NV said Wade's 992AF cam (I beleive to be the best of the 992a variations), diff gears. You can get the cam into a V6 pretty cheap if you are willing to do it yourself

best bang for buck is to buy a smashed commodore with a worked engine and just rape the wreck

I will add that you wont see gains in real world performance in the V6 with a cam unless you run a manual gearbox or bigger stall converter
