Hey guys, I have a VS Acclaim wagon.
It's done 320,000 and my fiancee and my brother just changed the head gaskets ( it had a blown head gasket when we bought it )
This is the story.
Got the car, drove it round for a few days to see how it went ( local driving ) and then one day, it started running rough as all hell.
That's when the head gaskets got done.
They got it all back together, and it's still running like crap.
There has been new leads, and spark plugs put in, and the oil is gonna get changed on the weekend comming up.
There is spark in every connector in the coil pack aswell.
My fiancee cleaned the injectors today, and put it all back together, and it still runs like shit.
It's idles, but rough.
Any ideas on what it could be???
There is a tiny bit of water in the exhaust, but dries up when the car gets warm.
Also, there is normal pressure in the radiator hoses ( can't really squeeze it )
So without having any electrical testing equiptment, i am at a dead end trying to work out what it is.
Thanks for having a look, hope you can help.
first thing i would check is error codes.. in the how-to section its one of the first 3 stickied threads. here: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
this should hopefully point you/us in a direction. post up ur find
could be anything, especially with that many k's on the clock
first step would be to see if theres any error codes stored on your ecu... all you need is a paper clip to do it. pretty sure there is a thread on here somewhere that shows you how.
if that shows up anything, tackle that issue first...
*edit - ephect beat me to it... i must say, excellent advice mate*

why dont you check the timing,
Tit-Tit-Titian™
stuffed coil or DFI

If the heads were not skimmed before refitting it may still be a head gasket leak or an inlet manifold leak. Timing shouldn't be off as it is not adjustable.
I'd pull all the spark plugs out and inspect - if one or more look dramatically different from the others that may point to a head or inlet manifold gasket leak. Double check the plug leads are on the correct plugs/coils as it is easy to get them mixed - this may allow the car to run but with a miss.
I'd also do a compression test while the plugs are out and see if there is any variance between cylinders.
Good Luck.
Thanks heaps everyone for the info and advice, as we haven't got any testing equiptment here at home, i'm just going to take it to a local mechanic and see what he comes up with.
I thought it may have been an inlet manifold leak aswell, but i'll guess i'll find out sooner or later.
Can't beat the old carbie V8'S!!!!!!
Cheers guys!!!
I'l let you all know what the problem was.

Im having the same problem with my 95 vs exec.
on Sunday i replaced the intake manifold gaskets (valley gasket). when i was finished i turned on the car and it was running like it had a miss.
so today i tried to do a bit of problem solving and was thinking it could of even been a vaccum hose come off but everything looks alright. i came to the conclusion that maybe there is coolant leaking into one of the clyinders because there is a fair bit of water coming out of the exhaust. so on the weekend i might pull everything apart and re-do everything.
First thing is to do a codes check which is very easy:Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Then tell the forum of the past history of the car - any work recently done, overheating, uses oil???....things like that.
ps...you may get more input if you start a new thread...and welcome!
try cleaning the throttle body completely... meaning take it off use carcy cleaner and spray all the blak stuff out of the bore and also clean the Idle air control and the passages. some people swear by this but it doing do much for me.
It's probably the manifold, do you have extractors or a stock exhaust? I bet you have a stocky. I had a similar problem with two other cars and this turned out to be the problem.
thanks for your help guys im a apprentice deisel mechanic ... so when i go back to work tomoro im goin to
try checking the codes
and also im from newcastle im lookin into gettin my droopy headliner fixed dose any one know where i cant get it re upolsterd or buy a new one and how much?
