    Unhappy 4HDD auto Problems

Hello. I have brought a 1994 series 2 VR Commodore. Since i brought the car i have had nothing but trouble. I have searched other posts but cant seem to find any the same. I was hoping someone would be able to help me out as i dont have much money and i am fairly mechanically minded so if theres a way to fix the problems myself im willing to give it a go.
When giving it, it free revs between gears and is leaking trans fluid from what i asume is a seal behind the tourque converter.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions that could lead me in the right direction

transmission could be slipping id take it to a trans specialist and get them to have a look, they will be able to tell you what the problem is.

If cash is short I'd simply add a can of transmission reconditioner as in all probability the trans is nearing the end of it's life. This will swell the seals stopping leaks and also make the clutches grip better giving less slip. You'll also extend it's life by going easy on it. Not much fun but neither is walking.
    Good Luck

Last type I used was Nulon from memory but any of the dearer ones (closer to $20 than $10) will work. SuperCheap carry all brands. I worked at Cape Don for a while lettin balloons go and am pretty sure I saw a SuperCheap when in Darwin. Give it about 2 weeks to allow it to swell the seals.

Your auto is on the way out and their isn't really a cheap fix. Like said before take it easy on it and delay the inevitable but it may last for another year or it might go tomorow.

The free revving between gears is your gears slipping and if its bouncing off the limiter free revving its having trouble engaging the next gear. I went through four 4HDDs before I went Manual. <3 manual.

Oh and yeah their is a seal behind the TC but its up to you if its worth pulling it all out just to replace a seal on a dodgy box. If it goes and you need it fixed fast look at a box from a wrecker. I used to get them for 385$ ea with 3 months warranty.

Do a search on this forum for changing to a manual as it's been covered many many times. If I was changing to a manual, I'd first off check on the phone with the local council and the Police for any abandoned/stolen/confiscated car auctions to see if there is a manual vehicle there - this is a long shot but they do go awful cheap at such auctions. Next is the finance companies for repossesions then insurance for write-offs. Lastly try the wreckers because they get them from the places I've mentioned and add their cut. Every now and then you see them on Ebay as a changeover kit.
    Good Luck.

Lighty tap the tranny pan with flat head screwdriver all the way around and get ready for the raspberry cordial... (eyes and mouth open)
