Hey guys,
i just changed by rotors and pads... and after having troubles bleeding them i got it all sorted out..
but i have a problem, when the brakes are applied at slow speeds they make a creaking sound... and it's worse when the car is completly stopped.. sounds terrible.. and ideas what it could be? it's quiet loud... AND i can also feel the "creaking" through the pedal...??
EDIT: This Is Exactly What It Sounds Like...... YouTube - Brakes Creaking!!!

its probly jst them wearing in being new pad n rotors it mite takea week to bed in properly.
Could also be the pad tho, what onse did u fit?
i dunno about that... if the car is off and stationary, and you press the brake it still creaks
thats why i thought maybe something more than just "wearing in" ...... i can also feel it through the pedal....
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE!!!! (caps)

maybe the piston on a particular caliper is rubbing on the seal because its fugged or somthing, or the guides maybe at a longer shot. If you say you have spare calipers around, stick your ear around the wheels and find which is the offending caliper and replace it, only 1 hose on it holding it on once the bolts are out. Try not to let all the fluid escape out of the brake line when you do it, though some will a bit and then just bleed that caliper up again.
Edit, also im not sure if you can just grease the offending piston(if it is that), i have never dissmattled a caliper and i only assume the piston retracts into the caliper and is immersed in the fluid anyway, but if thats not the case you maybe able to grease it.
woooahhhhh...... sounds like the master cylinder.... pop ur hood, get someone to stick their head above it.
That's insane how loud yours is....
im pretty sure its the passenger side front caliper, i'll grab a caliper off one of the other wreck's and give it a go.. thanks guys
ok i just Greased the slides with high temp grease and the noise is STILL THERE!!, im starting to think it's the piston, how would i go about greaseing it??...

i get what ur saying, but it's loud as hell on the clip, and it's too much squeak in either direction for it be caliper movement. all i'm saying is, lift the hood and have a listen
well, even if it's your slide's, they'll have to come out. clean off the old dry grease (use fuel or something) and re-grease them.. use a high temp grease (i just noticed in ur post u said u got some...![]()
ok well i popped bonnet and no sound from master,
i got the old girl to push the pedal and checked around it is coming from the caliper... even after the slides were greased...
i just went and got one off my berlina, and im having a look how i could grease the piston.. but cant really see a way to do it....
any ideas????
and that clip isnt my car, but it sounds exactly the same.
THEORY!!!!!!
When i was trying to bleed my brakes the same caliper that im having trouble with now had a blocked bleeder nipple.
also this wheel is harder to move due to the pads grabbing the rotor.
SO im thinking maybe the same gunky shit that had the bleeder nipple blocked has also F'd the piston?? maybe blocked it up some how??
does this sound possible??
i have been studying the spare caliper i have here and it lloks to me like the piston is in an oil bath (brake fluid) is this correct??.... if so i may have found my problem...
sounds very feasible, just swap the caliper out since you have the luxury of a spare. Then you can strip the old one down and have a look.
HAHAHA BINGO!!!
ok i found out it was actually both of the front calipers but the passenger side one was really noisey compared to drivers side.
i pulled them off and found that both sides were "seized" so to speak. (really hard to move them), so i wacked the piston out, and it was bone dry around. it still had fluid pushing it, but the walls were dry as a nun's.....
after greasing them up i put them back in (carefully so i didnt screw the seal up) and bolted it all back together and HEY PRESTO!! it worked... no noises at all and after bleading them i had so much more pedal back.. the brakes are better than ever now,
and also when i was greasing the slides, they didnt actually have grease in them, it was dried up and stuck to the pins. i had to scrap it off wit a flat head screw driver...
thanks for everyones help, i hope that this thread helps some one else one day...
glad you got that sorted, nothin worse than issues with brakes and now you can bleed brakes and do pads competently too.
How many times did you bleed them to get rid of the spongy pedal![]()
ive got the same issue , although mine isnt as loud as the car in the video
So basically just replace the brake caliper and the problem is fixed or?
you can buy service kits from holden, i think they are pretty cheap..
and they come with grease for the piston inside the caliper, or yeah you can just change the caliper....
otherwise ask autobarn for grease that will be ok to use in the brake system, then pop then take off the caliper (off the car) punch the piston out from behind, then grease it up...
you have to stretch the rubber seal out so you can get the piston back in...
it's strange how they just fugged themselves hey?..
like straight after a brake change they decide to dry up and start creaking like ****..pretty weird... im definately upgrading to the 1" master and VT booster though
and it still has a sponge for a brake pedal... but not as bad as before... i bled the brakes 2 times and am gonna flush the system out soon, i think it needs to be done.

guy's, reckon i should write a How-To
for greasing slides and also the piston??
i took photo's of everything i was doing cause i thought i'd write one up, but i thought maybe that it wouldnt be that helpful
yer that would be good man,how-to's are always good
Cant hurt, how-to's are always good. Its probably somthing that should be done on alot of older vn/p/r/s given their age now.
If the pedal is still spongey then you still have air in the calipers, if your not using the clear hose and bottle way of bleeding, you need to make sure you close the bleeder nipple back up before you lift your foot off the brake pedal, its best to tighten it as fluid is coming out of it that way you are sure no air is getting back into the caliper. Basically its a 2 person job without the hose and bottle.
