I have a 1997 VS S2 Station Wagon. When the fuel tank gets to just below half as indicated on the gauge when I go around a right hand corner or a sustained right sweeping bend like a large roundabout the engine stalls. As soon as the car is straight it will restart immediately. Also if I park the right hand wheels on a high kerb the car will not start. I tried to remove the fuel sensor to inspect it but couldn't get it out through the hole in the fuel tank. Any sugestions welcome?
Never seen it but i heard about it here before. The return line dumps fuel back over the fuel pump into the swirl pot it sits in, if it is disconnected in the tank of busted whateva... then this is a classic symptom of it. It also maybe the walls of the swirl pot have broken away too, in which case new tank is needed.
I had thise as well, but mine its was once it was under a quarter. been told to adjust the fuel lines as to where they pick up n such but it all sounds like too much of a hassel
have also had this happen to me on a main road during peak traffic. car didnt restart therefore steering was impossible and the brakes were stiff as ****.. pretty scary. lucky i could turn the steering wheel enuf to getinto a small streetand slowly ease on the handbrake lolllllll.
must have sometyhing to do with the fuel lines. am getting mine checked next service..

What is a swirl pot and is it part of the tank. Can you get to it by pulling out the pickup and sender unit.
I know nothing about the fuel system, as you might have guessed!
the swirl pot or commonly called anti splash tank keeps fuel right where the fuel pump picks up. thus to prevnt car stalling when fuel is low and moving side to side when cornering
in a vs wagon it is located (looking at the front of tank) in the lefthand rear corner. not to sure if you can pull it out with fuel sender out, probably easier to replace tank
Almost every holden i have ever owned or been in does the cutting out thing around right handers when pushing hard. It is very frustrating at times and would love to know why!!! (my old kingswood would do it no matter how much fuel in tank but my VS seems to only do it with less in the tank, but is still super annoying!!)
Thanks to all I have just found an older thread that discusses my problem and has some fixes mostly replacing everything including the fuel tank. So I think I might just put up with it for a while!
maybe u jus got shit in ur fuel tank floating round and wen it gets halfway it tries to get sucked up and blocks the fuel line. Same thing happened to my mates hilux.. he swapped his tank and it was sweet.
