    Default Question about Statesman/Caprice Clock

Could someone who owns a Statesman or Caprice tell me if the analog clock in the dash is backlit or not? I want to see if I can get one and install it in my car somewhere. Thanks.

Yeah they are backlit, connected to the parking lights i beleive,

skater: Yes they would have constant power
    Power is measured in DECIBEL

Okay, I bought a clock off eBay for the princely sum of $6.50. I cut off the three tabs that hold it on to back of the dash pad.

I decided not to try and make it fit into the dash facia and went for a spot on the drivers door instead.

It uses three wires in order to function properly - one for constant 12 volts, one for illumination and one for the earth. I ran the cables behind the side air vent and through the grommet that is used for the door loom. The door trim needs to be removed to do this. I earthed one wire to the body. The illumination wire runs to the brown/white wire in the dash loom and the constant 12 volt wire is grafted in to the constant running to the head unit. It is held in place with some strong double sided tape and back of it is just covered in some cloth. At some stage I will change it to a grey coloured covering that is more suited to my interior colour scheme.

After some thought I decided that the clock looked a bit bland so I went and bought some 2.5mm balsa wood, measured the clock and went about making a new face for it. After measuring, cutting, sanding, staining and varnishing I came up with something that looks a lot more appealing and blends in with my other woodgrain trims.

Have you thought about using a VQ roof clock? It would require you to cut your roof lining, but its as simple as buying a VQ roof lining for $18, cutting it straight, and merging it with your wagon lining.

    No, I must admit that I haven't.

Actually I did bid on one of those but there were two other jokers and they got into a bidding war which I wanted no part of.

I love them too, thats why i have 2 roof linings and 3 clocks, so i can have one in each car (plus a spare considering i bought the clocks off ebay, ones bound to be a dud)

I was gonna go with the SV3800 clock i had, but they have red digits, the roof clocks have green digits. I like green
