Need to beat an SS

I have a VS acclaim auto with CAI, chip, cat back 2.5" exhaust and 25mm manifold insulator. Have 1.9 yella terra roller rockers on their way but not here yet.
A friend has a vs SS with cai and maybe (not sure) 2.5" cat back. Also auto.
My, ahem, really important question is, should i be able to beat him with roller rockers fitted, as there is $10 riding on this (race is to the top of 2nd gear) and for the sake of 6cyl pride i cannot lose!!!!

What do you recon, and is there anything else i can sly dog do to improve my chances (other than supercharger or ripping out interior as i think somehow he would notice)

Any advice appreciated and will post on outcome. (hopefully going to do a pre and post rocker race)

Get the highest ratio diff you can find and you will be at the top of 2nd gear in no time

EDIT: Or, since it's an auto so back off the throttle a little as you get high into 2nd gear and it will shift early

I didn't know drag strips let you do this I thought 1/8th was the shortest you could do lol diff ratio is were the race will be one don't go to the extream of 4.11 cos you will wheel spin to much on take off hope you show him up

Btw what dose your car go like with the rolla rockers is it worth doing?

shouldnt be too hard to beat a 5ltr, stock they arnt very quick. Take out your spare tyre for some weight reduction and have as little fuel as possible should save you 60kg or so.

if it was a 5 liter statie then maybe, but an ss is gonna be tough to beat mate. i had a crack at my mates vr ss when mine was stock bar exhaust and yeh i hate to say it but he ate me lol.

Didn't spend the $$$'s to race at all, not really into the whole drag race thing, but my mate has absolutely no faith in the old V6 and i have need of showing him otherwise. Cos he is gunna lose!!!!

If it's one of the crapest VR SS's around you miiiight be neck and neck, otherwise no chance by the top end of 2nd (125 ish) he's going to be about .4 seconds/ 6 car lengths in front I would say assuming the VR is an average one

take your spare tyre and jack out. take your air filter out just b4 the race. 3.7 diff gears, shift kit and good fuel. bigger throttle, change your fuel filter, and maybe you wont lose by as much

Bloody hell, how fast do you all think a stock vs ss is? aren't they 165kw? I raced one in my well thrashed totally stock vn and had a bonnet length on him to about 80. Stock v8's are not fast. I'm going to win easy i recon!

Faster than a 98% stock V6 Your CAI and "chip" are the only things that will do anything for you. Doubt they will do much for you. Who did your tune?

Good chance you beat your mate because he probably left his car in overdrive and put the foot to the floor. Manual shift your V6. I'll put a further $10 he will kick your ass.

best bet is to fiddle with his car when he isnt looking. get a remote activated switch that will turn off his fuel pump. then when it looks like he is about to cain you. press the remote and sale past. then reactivate it. a thrashed vn will beat your vs anyway, weight to hp ratio is better in a vn than a vs

same as what happened when i raced my mate. i was in front till he got into second gear and then bam, went right infront.

And don't the 3.8 Buick V6's have a little bit more torque over the Ecotec's anyway?

It all depends how the condition of both of your cars anyway. Could be things making your or your mates car run "not as good as they should" that aren't exactly things you can see / hear / feel.
