too the average consumer im guessing it may either look like the seller is a car enthusiast or a hoon , so things like extractors and exhaust ... the noticable mods ... would they lower the market value or raise it would you say?
Most of the time, when yo add something, you can kind off add that cost to the overall SALE PRICE!. But with modifications as such to a car, I.E Extractors look around $500, put them on , and potentially bump selling price up 300 - 400. Personally i think the mods do increase value a little, but ya dont make a profit, unless you lie about price, and say was $900 but was only really $400 and ya put price up by $500 so your making money, but they think they are getting a bargin, because you have dropped the price.
well im ahead anyway because i picked up the car for about a just under half of what redbook thinks its worth so no problem there.... just posted the thread out of curiosity.
Nothing. Mods shouldn't add much if any value onto the car, unless you have absolutely maxed the car out.
For example, there was a guy on this forum who tried to sell his VT S-pack on here and on ebay in the beginning of last year. He started trying to sell it in beginning of 2007 I think, wanted over $20 grand for it. Took him over a year before someone bought it, for less than $10 grand if I remember.
It was just a standard VT S-Pack with a GTO bodykit, 119XXX k's, manual, and a couple of mods like exhaust, chip, pod filter etc...
I wouldn't pay much extra for a car with mods...I'd prefer to do them myself. it would probably be better to do so anyway.
Im going to say lower. When Im looking to buy a daily car I want something that hasnt been flogged or used for "performance", I want some thing that has been looked after. Having a heap of cheap bolt on mods just sounds like you did what you could do cheaply to get some power, to flog up the prinny highway.
If I was buying a track/strip car then Performance mods will add to the value.
Extractors and a normal sounding exhaust probably won't make much difference however at best nearly every other mod will keep the same value or lower it, sometimes significantly.

you never make money on cars...well not most of the time anyway, the cars only worth what someone is willing to pay for it
well if it comes too it ill let the potential buyer take it round the block a few times, just not in the rain haha.
I'd pay more for a stock car than I would for one with wheels + exhaust. If it had a massive worked engine or a custom paint job then I would pay more, but don't expect to get anything close to the amount back that you have spent on it

The only mod that you can really do that will increase the value is a manual conversion. Manuals will 99% of the time attract a higher price than the same car in auto (I would know, I was one of those who converted).
Mods add nothing to a car, period. Maybe a thousand or so over a standard car if they are good quality mods and of wide appeal (No wild or stupid body kits etc). Unless you are spending the sort of money to bring a car to show quality, it's something you do to improve and enjoy the car whilst you own it. If you spend 10k on a 10k Commodore, its worth maybe 11k when you come to sell it. If you expect to get your money back on mods you are just wasting your time.
