Handbrake Release Mechanism Disappeared

Hey guys

I've got a Vr V6 and it's always been missing the rubber button and the spring, but its always had the metal lever behind it which worked just the same.

But last night the metal lever disappeared, I'm thinking the stuff inside the handbrake collapsed, I've pulled off all the centre console but don't really know what I'm looking for...

Any tips guys?

you can unbolt the handbrake and dissconnect the cable and pull it right out is the easiest it happens to lots of people think its mainlt pulling it up way to far that lets the rod fall right out the back ive fixed a few but they do it again
