hi i have a vs v6 and i put new struts and strut bearing in the other day and i looked under the bonnet b4 and i happened to push down on the car and there was a tiny bit of play under where u tighten the nut down onto the big round metal washer looking thing with a rubber surround on the very top of the strut tower ,ive got the nut done up as tight as i can and it still has about 1 to 2 mm of slop in the top of the strut when i bounce the car up and down iv supplied a pic of where i mean i hope sum1 can understand what i mean i dont think its normal to have this tiny bit of movment ontop of the strut bearing houseing ?
How did you tighten the bolt up?
Is the spring sitting 100% right?
If the springs sitting right and the bolt was tighten properly there shouldnt be a problem.. So rattle gun the **** out of the bolt, or you have left a washer or something out, which I dont think is possible.
You dont really want to rattle gun it, only if u have to.
You can spin the seals in the shock if it spins too hard. Ive done it, $120gone
Does it have a slot so u can hold the shock with a screwdriver etc then do up the nut harder with say a ring spanner??
hey mate mine is the same i have just replaced mine wit monro gt lowerd shocks nolathane bearing plates and monroe bump stops ...
i have a fly shit worth of slop and have no left any thing out it went together the same as it came out dont tighten it any more other wise the top part of your strut where you put the 10mm socket or spaner on when you do it up wit the 24 mm it will snap....i know man LOL
i had a mechanic check over it and said it should be fine champ
Sound like the rubber bushes on top of your strut have colapsed. I will be getting mine done soon.
thanks for the replys guys cheers
Ok the way im reading it is that you are worried that you have little gap under the big washer that sits onto of the big black plate underneath it? if this is the concern do not stress as this is good. Go look under the bonnet of a VR to VZ commodore that has done a fair few kays on the clock and you will notice that the gap between the big washer to body is fairly big, this is bad as it means the top rubber mount that goes on top of the strut is worn out. easy way to tell is if you have the top mount out of the vehicle turn it unside down and place it on a flat surface and if the inner ring touches before the outer ring then this means it is worn out. Hope i have helped.
